Ash Wednesday
Wednesday 22nd February is Ash Wednesday, a day of fast and abstinence. Ashes blessed during 10am Mass will be available in the Church all day. The drawing of a cross on the forehead is done while repeating the words “Repent and believe in the Gospel” (Mark 1:15).
Service of the Healing of the Generations

Diocesan Response to Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria
The Archbishop of Dublin has decided that the SHARE
collection next weekend, 25th/26th February, will be replaced by a collection to support the people of Turkey and Syria. The collection will be channelled through Trócaire who can ensure that all funds will be used to help those most badly affected. A portion of the Tap & Go donations on the weekend will also be included in the collection. Please give generously.
Reflection on Sunday’s Readings
Many of conversations today exaggerate difference and division. But the scripture for this Sunday proclaims a radical message of love that overcomes hatred, and a compassion that heals and unifies. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians (Second Reading) teaches that the Spirit of God is within us. Together, we are a temple of God proclaiming God’s wisdom which challenges human notions of tribalism that can ultimately lead to division and hatred, when we see ‘others’ as our enemies. Moses (First Reading) is commanded to profess God’s wisdom by telling the people that holiness is based on love and forgiveness: ‘You must love your neighbour as yourself.’ In the Gospel, Jesus reveals the full expression of the wisdom of God’s Law of Love: ‘love your enemies’. We are called to respond with radical non-violence to all forms of hatred and division. The Psalm is a beautiful song of gratitude to a God full of forgiveness, who is slow to anger and abounding in compassion and love. This week, may the words of this song of love sing out through all that we do and say. We pray that we will have the grace to move beyond divisive ‘them-and-us’ ways of thinking and relating. In God we are all One, bound together with compassion and love.

Letting Go
To let go, doesn’t mean to stop caring; it means I can’t do it for someone else.
To let go is not to admit powerlessness just that the outcome is not in my hands.
To let go is not to try and change another, I can only change myself.
To let go is not to fix but to be supportive.
To let go is not to judge but to allow another to be a human being.
To let go is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes but to allow others affect the outcomes.
To let go is not to deny but to accept.
To let go is not to nag, scold or argue, but to search out my own shortcomings.
To let go is not to criticise and regulate everyone but to become what I dream I can be.
To let go is not to regret the past but to grow and live for the future.
To let go is to fear less and love more.

A Prayer to Mark Pancake Tuesday
Dear Lord,
The simple ingredients of a pancake remind me of the simple things in life.
Milk, flour and eggs will not make the headlines on their own but put them together and you get a beautiful pancake.
Help me to do things in my life in the spirit of simplicity.
Help me to mix in enough love, kindness and goodness to make a difference each day.
May today focus me on my Lenten journey which starts tomorrow.
Where ever that journey may take me, help me to keep it simple and to take it one step at a time. Amen.
