Church Re-Opens for Masses

Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
Reflection on Today’s Gospel
The Spirit of truth will lead you to the complete truth.
This is the great feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the church when Christ sent his Spirit and sent his followers out to bring his peace, joy and mercy to all.
The First Reading tells the story of the first Pentecost when the disciples were filled with power of the Spirit. The barrier of language between peoples was removed as all heard the wonders of God’s message.
In the Gospel, Jesus promises that the Spirit – the Advocate – will come and be with them always. He invites his followers to witness to the Father’s message of love, with the guidance and companionship of the Advocate.
This week, let us pray for ourselves and for the Christian Church. We ask for a sense of rediscovery of what it means to be the people of God, and that our hearts and minds might be open to the Spirit of truth.
Service of the Healing of the Generations
The Service of the Healing of the Generations (Family Tree) will take place next Sunday, 30th May, in our Church, led by Fr Cathal and team, commencing with Holy Mass at 7pm and concluding at 8pm. Access on the webcam for those who cannot attend.
Pope Francis on Pentecost
Last year Pope Francis urged Christians to ask the Holy Spirit to free them from the paralysis of selfishness and make a gift of themselves by serving and doing good.
Ecumenical Bible Week
This week’s Ecumenical Bible Week is an exciting and successful venture which is now in its eighth year and will run online from Pentecost Sunday (today) to Trinity Sunday (30th May). The total collected from our parish for the Trócaire Lenten Campaign was €7,586. Huge thanks.
Government Regulations on Church Opening
As we resume attendance at Mass in our Church, we set out the following for weekend Masses –
- The Sunday obligation remains suspended.
- Please cooperate with the stewards as we try to do our best to navigate these strange times safely!
- Face masks to be worn at all times and hands to be sanitised on entering and leaving.
- Social distancing to be observed at all times.
- No congregating outside the Church door or grounds.
- The four doors in the Church will be open – both main doors; door near the sacristy and the door in the lobby by the Parish Centre.
- These doors will be clearly marked – so please go out the same door you enter.
- Those who enter by the ‘side’ doors, will use the side aisles and remain there.
- Those who enter by the main doors will use the main aisles and remain there.
- An update on the celebration of the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation will be circulated on receipt of instructions and details from the Archbishop.
- Baptisms will take place only in exceptional circumstances until further notice.
Prayer To The Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit, Spirit of infinite holiness,
Spirit of infinite goodness, Spirit of infinite mercy,
Impart to us prayers deeper than our own prayers,
Powers beyond our own powers,
So that under Your Divine influence,
We may choose the ways of truthfulness,
goodness and love after the perfect image
of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

If you have an hour to spare from 11am on Mondays, please consider coming to help to clean the Church – you will receive a big welcome and much appreciation. Stewards for weekend Masses are also needed.
New Pilgrim Path Website: An Ecological Examen
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was executed by the Nazis for resisting Hitler’s totalitarian regime, left a rich theological legacy. One of his books, The Cost of Discipleship, is considered a classic of Christian thought. In it, he distinguishes between “cheap grace” and “costly grace.” “Cheap grace,” he wrote, “is the grace we bestow on ourselves . . . grace without discipleship. Costly grace is the gospel which must be sought again and again . . . Is anybody happier because you passed his way?
Does anyone remember that you spoke to him today?
This day is almost over, and its toiling time is through;

Did you give a cheerful greeting to the friend who came along?
Or a churlish sort of “Howdy” and then vanish in the throng?
Were you selfish pure and simple as you rushed along the way,
Or is someone mighty grateful for a deed you did today?
Can you say tonight, in parting with the day that’s slipping fast,
That you helped a single brother of the many that you passed?
Is a single heart rejoicing over what you did or said;
Does a man whose hopes were fading now with courage look ahead?
Did you waste the day, or lose it, was it well or sorely spent?
Did you leave a trail of kindness or a scar of discontent?
As you close your eyes in slumber do you think that God would say,
You have earned one more tomorrow by the work you did today?

Today on this great Feast of Pentecost we celebrate the birthday of the Christian church – Happy Birthday to all Christians!
Obituary in the London Times for Common Sense
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn’t always fair; and
- Maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.
Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as some churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.
He is survived by his four stepbrothers:
I Know My Rights;
I Want It Now;
Someone Else Is To Blame;
I’m A Victim.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.
