Journey Through Lent – Invitation
The final Wednesday in our journey through Lent is next Wednesday 27th as we reflect on the Word of God in preparation for a more personally meaningful Easter season? Led by Fr Séamus in our Church.
There is something in this week calling us back to our roots. Those roots are found in a borrowed upper room, where Jesus took bread and wine and transformed it so that it was for those around the table, as it is for us today the “Bread of Life”. They were reminded and called to “do this in memory” of him. Those roots show us one called “Lord”, “Master”, “Teacher” kneel at the feet of his guests, pour water and clean what had become dirty, soothe what had become sore and give a lesson in humility. May we be made holy through our participation in and celebration of these days, the remembering and re-telling of a Sacred story and a true sense of sorrow for past mistakes and hurts.

Reflection on Sunday Readings
Today marks the end of Lent and the beginning of Holy Week. St Paul (Second Reading) highlights the humility of Jesus, who emptied himself of the glory that was his as Son of God. He gives himself away totally in love, coming among us as the suffering servant described by Isaiah in the First Reading. Jesus puts others before himself rather than seeking power or honour.
Riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, Jesus shows us his way is one of love, compassion, mercy, humility, and service. We hear the crowds shouting ‘Hosanna’, wanting to make Jesus into the king who will save them from Rome. (Procession Gospel)
In the main Gospel, we see the same crowds turn against Jesus, calling for his arrest. He is mocked, beaten, condemned, crucified, and placed in a tomb. Jesus is betrayed by one of his own disciples, denied by another, and abandoned by most.
On the cross Jesus prays the psalm’s response: ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’
We are invited to walk with Jesus through Holy Week. Lord, help us to walk with you, to be strengthened by your example and teaching.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is held Tuesday to Friday, 11am-3pm, each week.
Note for Holy Week
We ask people to bring plants and flowers during Holy Week for the Easter Garden and mini eggs or small chocolate bars for distribution after Masses on Easter Sunday.
Trócaire 2024
Suggested prayer service for the blessed palm at home. As a family, decide where the palm will be placed. Gather at home. Ask an adult/teen to read the account of the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Invite each person to name one event, relationship, or thing for which they are grateful to God. Finish with an ‘Our Father’. NB: Please remember to return your Trócaire boxes this week!

New Pilgrim Path – Holy Week
Many struggle with the idea that Jesus had to die for our sins as a sacrifice to appease a wrathful God. The silence of St Joseph is the wisest way of all

We Know What Lies on the Other Side
A sick man turned to his doctor, as he was preparing to leave the examination room. He said, “Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side.”
Very quietly, the doctor said, “I don’t know.”
“You don’t know? You, a Christian man, do not know
what is on the other side?”
The doctor was holding the handle of the door; on the other side came a sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.
Turning to the patient, the doctor said, “Did you notice my dog? He’s never been in this room before. He didn’t know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing . . . I know my Master is there and that is enough.”
Thought For the Week
This world is full of moving miracles, mountains to climb, oceans to swim, cities to see. but you’ll never feel any of it if you’re afraid of the heights of your own dreams, the depth of your own soul or the beating of your own heart.
