Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Dear Parishioners,
Christmas time is fast approaching. Little did we think this time last year that we would still be in the throes of the pandemic now!
Decorating the Church has commenced, which gives a great sense of joy and anticipation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Thank you to all who helped. I take this opportunity to say a special thanks to all volunteers who help to clean the Church all during the year; your work is so vital and very much appreciated.
The Christmas card and calendar for 2022 will soon be distributed to all households. It includes the Christmas timetable. See the extra Mass on Christmas Eve at 6.30pm. The Christmas Dues envelope will also be included in the delivery. I thank you for your financial support at all times, especially for the wonderful response to the Summer Appeal.
As in all parishes at the moment, the church collections have fallen off immensely so I make a special appeal to your generosity in your Christmas Dues contributions. It is so much appreciated.

Weekly Reflection on the Scriptures

Advent in our Church
The pink candle will be lighting with two purple candles on the Advent wreath this Sunday – Hope, Peace and Joy. The Jesse Tree reminds us of Jesse, father of David; the harp David played to make people feel happy; the crown to remind us of Solomon, son of David, who had the gift of wisdom.

Reflection on Today’s Gospel
The Lord is very near: Rejoice!
This Third Sunday of Advent is called ‘Gaudete Sunday’’ –that is, ‘Rejoice!’ It is as though, like small children, we can barely wait to celebrate the wonder and joy of Christmas, the coming of Christ Jesus into our world. (First Reading).
St Paul (Second Reading) encourages us to have confidence in God, to be happy in the Lord. If there is anything we need, we can ask God for it. He will give us a peace of heart and mind that is far greater than we can grasp or understand. In the Gospel, the people ask John the Baptist, ‘What must we do?’ to prepare for the coming of the Christ. All are asked to share with those who have less than themselves. Perhaps we can ask the Lord: ‘What must we do to prepare for Your coming this Christmas?’

The First Christmas After You Lose Someone Is Hard
The first Christmas after you lose someone is hard. You will feel like not celebrating, but you will go along with it for the kids, for the family. It will hurt.
The presents not bought. The chair not sat in. The memories of past Christmases that threaten to suck the joy out of the whole day. But you will get through it, you may even raise a smile between the tears. If you can, thank God for the Christmases you had with them. Light a candle. Cry. Start a new tradition in their memory.
What It Means To Be Poor
One day a very wealthy father took his son on a trip to the country for the sole purpose of showing his son how it was to be poor. They spent a few days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
After their return from the trip, the father asked his son how he liked the trip. “It was great, Dad,” the son replied.
“Did you see how poor people can be?” the father asked. “Oh Yeah,” said the son.
“So what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father.
The son answered, “I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.”
“Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.”
The boy’s father was speechless. Then his son added, “It showed me just how poor we really are.”
Too many times we forget what we have and concentrate on what we don’t have. What is one person’s worthless object is another’s prize possession. It is all based on one’s perspective.
Sometimes it takes the perspective of a child to remind us what’s important.
Thought for the week
Advent is a time to recognise the emptiness which needs to be filled in our lives. A time to smooth rough edges of pride and to make room for Jesus who comes.
