Reflection on Sunday’s Readings
Today’s readings encourage us to think about our journey of faith in the company of the transfigured Lord, and the importance of trusting in the call and grace of God our Father. The First Reading tells of God’s astonishing call to Abram to abandon his land, his family and his nation, and Abram’s generous response. With divine blessing and guidance, Abram (who becomes Abraham) finds a new home and a new life, serving as an example to us all.
In his letter to Timothy) Today’s Gospel shows Jesus transfigured on the mountain top, radiant with divine light. The Father proclaims Jesus as his Beloved Son, and adds the all-important invitation: ‘Listen to him’.
This week, we pray for a deepening personal relationship with Jesus. We ask to listen to his voice, to hear his call to personal ministry, and to feel his touch in our daily lives. We also continue to pray for peace in our troubled world.

Ten Tips for Lent Pope Francis
- Get rid of the lazy addiction that keep us from God–Lent helps us to leave behind old habits of sin that deceive and ensnare us.”
- Do something that costs –what we can give up in order to really help others by our self-denial. No self-denial is real without this dimension of penance.
- Don’t remain indifferent“Indifference to our neighbour and to God represents a real temptation for us Christians.” Think of others, think of God – not ourselves.
- Pray: Make our hearts like yours! “During this Lent, then, brothers and sisters, let us all ask the Lord: ‘Make our hearts like yours’.”
- Take part in the sacraments–Go to Mass more often if you can.
- Prayer– “In the face of so many things that hurt us and harden us and make us indifferent, we are called to prayer. In prayer we come close to God”.
- Fasting– “We must be careful not to practice fasting because it makes us feel good about ourselves.”Fasting makes sense if it questions our security, and if it also leads to some benefit for others.
- Almsgiving– “Almsgiving helps us to experience giving freely, of sharing our blessings with others.”
- Help the Poor“ In the poor and outcast we see Christ’s face; by loving and helping the poor, we love and serve Christ.”
- Evangelize“ The Lord asks us to be heralds of his love and mercy – to our brothers and sisters experiencing darkness

March
March soothes our winter-worn souls with anticipation, and its promise of more. It gently shakes our hibernating toes and whispers ‘wake now, your wintering days are done’. And so with each eager sunrise, we emerge, we reignite, we reenergise. And as with the nature around us we begin to rise. Come on in, March, we have much yearned for your light, for your joy, for your new. We are slowly rousing from slumber. Welcome back. Donna Ashworth.
You Don’t Just Lose Someone Once
You don’t just love someone once. You lose them over and over, sometimes in the same day.
When the loss, momentarily forgotten, creeps up, and attacks you from behind.
Fresh waves of grief as the realisation hits home, they are gone. Again.
You don’t just lose someone once, you lose them every time you open your eyes to a new dawn,
and as you awaken, so does your memory,
so does the jolting bolt of lightning that rips into your heart, they are gone. Again.
Losing someone is a journey, not a one-off.
There is no end to the loss,
there is only a learned skill on how to stay afloat, when it washes over.
Be kind to those who are sailing this stormy sea,
they have a journey ahead of them, and a daily shock to the system each time they realise,
they are gone, again.
You don’t just lose someone once, you lose them every day, for a lifetime.
Donna Ashworth. For anyone grieving, my book ‘loss’ may bring some comfort and hope, that whilst grief is a hard part of our lives, it came from love love came first xx
Psalm 97
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad;
let the distant shores rejoice.
2 Clouds and thick darkness surround him;
righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
3 Fire goes before him
and consumes his foes on every side.
4 His lightning lights up the world;
the earth sees and trembles.
5 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
before the Lord of all the earth.
6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
and all peoples see his glory.
Thought for the Week
The best revenge is none. Heal, move on, and don’t become like those who hurt you.
