Spend time with the Lord in the wonderful ministry of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in our Church from 11am- 3pm Tuesdays to Fridays each week. Please leave your name and time/day available on a card from back table, and put in envelope on Adoration table
Ash Wednesday, 18th February marks the beginning of Lent, which lasts for 40 days, representing the time Jesus spent in the desert.
A cross of ash will be made on people’s foreheads, during 10am Mass.
This tradition has its roots in the Old Testament, where wearing ashes was a sign of repentance for sins and of one’s humility before God. The ashes are usually made by burning the palms from the previous year’s Palm Sunday and symbolically connects the beginning of Lent with its end, and a change of heart with Christ’s passion, death and resurrection.
Thought on Today’s Gospel
God is our yardstick, our compass and is more than our rule book and our loving Father. We obey Him, not out of fear, but because we love Him. With this love comes respect, joy, comfort, and the knowledge that we will always succeed if we put our faith in Him.
Reflection on Sunday Readings
Lead me, guide me, for the sake of your name
This Sunday, our readings invite us to consider God’s laws and wisdom. Our attitude may depend on whether we respond to God’s law of love or see it only as a legal imposition.
In the First Reading, Ben Sirach underlines how God has given us loving guidelines, but it is up to us as to how we respond. God gave us the gift of free will.
The Psalmist praises God’s law: we will experience happiness as we seek God and follow in his ways.
St Paul (Second Reading) points out that true wisdom comes from God. Only the Spirit of God can reach the depths of all things.
St Matthew, in the Gospel, describes the relationship between the Law of Moses and the more radical vision of Jesus. Jesus has not come to abolish the Law but to complete it.
During this week, as we strive, with God’s grace, to follow his law, may we be inspired by the example of so many who surround us.

Trócaire – Lent 2026
As last year, the focus on Guatemala continues in 2026 and highlights families struggling with the loss of livelihoods and food, due to droughts and storms, forcing children to leave schools. Funds raised will help train communities in climate-resilient farming, restore soil and provide tools.
Please take a Trócaire box from the back table and donate as much as possible.

One Who Is Lonely
Eternal Presence, you are with me on my journey.
You know the loneliness that wraps around my heart and leaves a void of sadness.
Comfort me on my dreary days, when emptiness is all, I know. Do not let me succumb to isolated self-pity.
Let me experience your presence. Fill my downcast spirit with your joy,
Keep me close to your abiding love with every step I take.
