Dear Heavenly Father, we bring this situation before you and ask for a swift end to violence. Our hearts are breaking for the children and families in Gaza and Israel who have and continue to experience the unspeakable horror of attacks and war all around them. We pray for peace and ask that you will guide the hearts and minds of those in leadership. We especially pray for those children who have been physically and emotionally injured, and for those who have lost loved ones, that you will provide the right people with the right resources to help them, and that you will protect each person. Lord, we ask for your wisdom for all those involved and for the wider international community. Amen
The Sanctuary in our Church reflects the focus of each Sunday in Advent. The theme this week is Rejoice.
The Jesse tree tells the story each week of the family tree of Jesus with each of his ancestors represented by a symbol. This week we have a house for Jesse, father of David; a harp for David and a crown for Solomon who had the gift of wisdom

Reflection on Sunday’s Readings
‘The readings on this Gaudete (‘Rejoice!’) Sunday are full of encouragement and joyful hope as we draw closer to the birthday of Jesus: God’s Son coming to live amongst us. Isaiah, Mary, and John the Baptist all bear joyful witness to what God has done and will do for his people.
Isaiah (First Reading) announces the coming of the anointed one: a cause for rejoicing. He will bring freedom, healing and good news to the people.
Mary’s Magnificat is a joyful song of praise to God, her Saviour who is rich in mercy. (Psalm)
St Paul (Second Reading) encourages us to be guided by the Holy Spirit in all that we do; give thanks for all things to God, and to pray constantly. Paul urges us to be happy always, because Christ will not fail us.
The focus of the Gospel is John the Baptist, who bears witness, testifying to the true identity of ‘the light’: Jesus himself. John answers the questions about his own identity and ministry, then says that the Saviour they seek, Jesus, is already amongst them, though ‘unknown to them’.
As we continue preparing for Christmas, we rejoice that
Jesus is already in our hearts and lives. Let’s pray to receive the graces needed to announce his message and presence through our attitudes, actions and words.

Do join us to raise the roof today Sunday 17th December at 12 noon Mass. We plan to sing during and after Mass.
Funeral Ministry
The Archdiocese will be running 3 Training Sessions for Funeral Ministry in the New Year. This will be open to new and existing members.
If you would like to be considered for this Ministry, please make application to me through the Parish Office. Further information will be given upon application.
Training Sessions will take place in Our Lady of Mercy Pastoral Centre, Brookwood Avenue, Artane, Dublin 5.

New Pilgrim Path – Great O Antiphons
The O Antiphons are seven responses based on Isaiah’s prophecies, which are sung or recited to introduce the canticle of Mary (the Magnificat) at evening prayer from 17th – 23rd December. These can be brought into our own prayers, as simple reminders throughout the day of the one whose coming we are joyfully expecting. The idea of God as a circle is inclusive, meaningful and accurate. God like a circle is at the centre of everything, not just the good stuff, but also the difficult and challenging moments in our lives too. When life gets difficult it is our belief that we are circled in light and love.
As we approach Christmas, it is all about celebrating a God who is at the center of everything and the center of our lives. If our lives feel out of balance as they sometimes do, we are invited to let the circle of God’s light and love bring some beautiful balance back in.
