Mass Details
The Church is now open for attendance at Masses – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 10am; Thursday 7.30pm (and Divine Mercy Hour). Saturday 6.30pm; Sunday 9.30am and 12noon. Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
Recently Deceased
We remember in our Prayers, Patrick Rafferty, RIP, late of Briarfield Grove and James (Shay) Deegan, RIP, late of Thornville Avenue. Our thoughtss and prayers are with their families, friends and neighbours. May they rest in peace.
Archbishop Farrell and Building Hope Task Force
The archbishop’s video about the new Task Force was shown at Masses last week. The availability ends today 18th July. at – www.dublindiocese.ie and we ask you to link on this as soon as possible. You are asked to consult with family members and then complete the online form and submit to the archbishop.
May the Holy Spirit working in and through us, do much more than we can dare to imagine as we live out our baptismal calling in humble and loving service.

Pope Francis
This week we include special prayers of thanks for the successful surgery for Pope Francis and will continue to keep him in prayers as he continues his recuperation in the Vatican.
Reflection on Today’s Gospel
‘You must come away … and rest for a while’
This week we are offered an invitation to spend more time with our loving Lord, our shepherd, and in whom we find nourishment, shelter, and peace for our minds and bodies.
The image of a God who restores, revives, guides, protects, feeds, anoints, and longs for us to dwell in God’s presence forever, is proclaimed in today’s beautifully familiar Psalm. The Gospel scene is an example of the Spirit at work in Jesus, as he compassionately responds to both the needs of his disciples and of his flock. Jesus recognises both the need for his beloved followers to be refreshed and restored in the stillness of his presence, and the need to respond with compassion to those who feel lost and are in need of his guidance.
Let us pray for each other that we may have the wisdom to spend our time in a sustaining balance of both contemplation and action as we live out our faith, trusting that Jesus the Good Shepherd will be our guide.
Service of the Healing of the Generations
The Service of the Healing of the Generations (Family Tree) will take place next Sunday, 25h July, in our Church, led by Fr Cathal and team, commencing with Holy Mass at 7pm and concluding at 8pm. Access on the webcam for those who cannot attend.
Family Offerings
We receive regular family offerings from a family – envelopes number 324. However we do not know who this is so would appreciate it if the family would contact Janice in the Office 01-8390433 to arrange for the updating of the records.
Fr Con McGillicuddy R.I.P.
Fr Con, who died recently, was the second Parish Priest in this Parish, following Fr Jack Hans, who had our lovely Church built. His ministry here was from 1984-1997 when Fr Cathal took over. Fr Con worked hard to clear the debt on the building of the Church, and was intent on building up the community here. He tried to meet as many parishioners as possible, visiting the schools, Naomh Barróg and the soccer club and encouraging the children to get involved. He was a proud Kerryman, a great supporter of the Kerry footballers – he fell in love with Dublin when he came Northside. He is remembered with great affection by our older parishioners.

Annual Charity Tax Refund Scheme
We have sent out forms for updating to 47 parishioners for the annual charity tax refund scheme and would appreciate it if they are completed and returned signed and including PPS number. These forms will suffice for five years – if you prefer a yearly one, please contact Janice. If you do not wish to be involved, please let the parish office know. We would encourage parishioners to sign up to this scheme as it plays a vital part towards the upkeep of our Church.

Fáilte Bayside – On Your Bike!
The Fáilte Bayside group is planning a sponsored cycle in Bayside (stationary bike), to raise funds to cover on-going expenses for a Syrian family which will be housed in the area. Volunteers are needed for this worthy cause, to cycle at an arranged time between 9am and 6pm next Saturday 24thJuly in the grounds of Bayside Church. Please contact Eileen at 085-114-8200.

Life Savers Come In All Sizes – And Shapes
The Siege of Leningrad lasted 872 days from September 1941 to January 1944, when the Germans besieged the Russian city now known as St Petersburg. One million people, mainly civilians, died, most of them from starvation. But there were some amazing stories from survivors:
“My grandmother always said that she and my mother, and I, her daughter, survived the severe blockade and hunger only thanks to our cat Vaska. If it were not for this red-headed bully, my daughter and I would have died of hunger like many others.
Every day Vaska went hunting and my grandmother made stew from what he dragged back.
At the same time, the cat always sat nearby and waited for food, and at night all three of us lay under one blanket and he warmed us.
He felt the bombing much earlier than the air raid was announced, began to spin and meow plaintively. My grandmother managed to collect things, water, mother, cat and run out of the house. When they fled to the shelter, as a family member, they dragged him with them and watched him not to be taken away and eaten.
The hunger was terrible. Vaska was hungry as everyone else and skinny. All winter until spring, my grandmother collected crumbs for the birds, and from spring they went hunting with the cat. Grandmother poured crumbs and sat with Vaska in ambush, his jump was always surprisingly accurate and fast. Vaska was starving with us and he didn’t have enough strength to keep the bird. He grabbed a bird, and grandmother ran out of the bushes and helped him. So from spring to autumn, they also ate birds.
When the blockade was lifted and more food appeared, and even after the war, my grandmother always gave the cat the best piece. She stroked him affectionately, saying – you are our breadwinner.
Vaska died in 1949, my grandmother buried him in the cemetery and, so that the grave would not be trampled, put a cross and wrote Vasily Bugrov. Then my mother put my grandmother next to the cat, and then I buried my mother there too. So all three lie behind the same fence, as they once did in the war under one blanket.“
