Service of the Healing of the Generations (Family Tree)
The Service of the healing of the Generations will take place next Sunday, 29th January, in our Church led by Fr Cathal and team. The service commences with Holy Mass at 7pm and concludes at 8pm.
Reflection on Sunday’s Readings
Jesus, Light of the World
‘Today’s readings on this Sunday of the Word of God proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, the light of the world: a beacon who draws all peoples to himself. When the old tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali were being deported to Assyria, Isaiah promised that their land, then deeply overshadowed by turmoil and war, would one day witness a great light in their midst (First Reading). In the Gospel, St Matthew sees the fulfilment of this prophecy. Jesus was, and is, that light. At the beginning of his ministry, Jesus settles in Galilee, a region that corresponds to the lands of Zebulun and Naphtali. After proclaiming the kingdom of heaven, it is striking that his first action is to call his first disciples. The task of witnessing to the kingdom is not something to be done by Jesus alone. Rather he calls followers to share in and continue this work. The Psalm is an eloquent prayer of trust, where the psalmist calls on the Lord as his light and his help.
This week, we may ask the Lord for that light and help in our lives, and in the lives of all humanity. We pray that we find ways of sharing his light and compassion with all whom we meet in our suffering world.
Four Seasons Special Collection
The Four Seasons Special collection for Church maintenance is being reintroduced and the next one will be taken up after all Masses on the weekend of 4th/5th February.
You will notice that the external steelwork and the surrounding timber work have been repaired and painted and the gutters have been replaced. However, there are still a number of essential repairs and maintenance items to be done, in particular the heating which needs urgent attention.
Your contribution towards the collection will go towards this work and all donations will be very much appreciated – we ask you to be as generous as you can.
St John Evangelist Kilbarrack/Foxfield Tax Claims
We urge anyone who is paying tax to sign up for this scheme to help raise much-needed funds for our Church. It does not affect your own taxes in any way. Because the Church is a charity, we can claim up to 44% of tax back on donations made by those who donate €250 and over through Family Offering, Easter and Christmas Dues, in one tax year. We ask those with forms to return them to the Parish Office immediately. If you wish to discuss this issue please phone Janice at 01 8390 433.

ARA re-opens in the Parish Centre, 2.30–4.pm, 25th January, with registrations each Wednesday to 15th February at €18. Existing members will be welcomed along with new members, male and female.
