Charity Tax Refund 2021
If you have not yet sent back the Tax Form which was posted in October 2023, there is still time to return it. Our Parish Secretary, Janice, will be submitting the claim by the end of Jan. If you have mislaid your form, we can provide you with a new one or if you wish to be removed the list, please call Janice on 01 839 0433.
Please note that this Charity Scheme in no way affects your own personal taxes with Revenue. It only allows our Church to get a refund on contributions made over €250 in one tax year. We just need your permission to make this claim which is why we post the CHY forms to
you for signing. We urge everyone who qualifies to take part in this opportunity. We can claim up to 42% on donations over €250. This is a vital income for our own Church of St. John the Evangelist. Please feel free to call into the Parish Office if you have any questions about the Charity Tax Scheme. We will be happy to explain it in more detail.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is held Tuesday to Friday, 11am-3pm, each week.
Four Seasons Collection
The next collection will take place this weekend 27th/28th January 2024. The first project on our list to complete in 2024 is to resurface the parish car park. So far, we have raised half the costs. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
Reflection on Sunday Readings
The readings this week reflect the Psalm response: O that today you would listen to his voice! Harden not your heart. This was the response of the Israelites when they grumbled in the desert in the First Reading. Moses promises the tribes of Israel that the Lord will send them a prophet like himself, coming from within their midst, who will speak God’s words.
We meet this prophet, Jesus, in the Gospel, who amazes his audience in the synagogue by curing a man possessed by an unclean spirit. They are particularly impressed by Christ’s quiet authority.
In the Second Reading, Paul seeks to reassure his audience in Corinth. They are worrying about marriage in the wider context of the end of time, which they think is imminent and must give their undivided attention to the Lord and ensure everything is as it should be.
We can spend some quiet time with the Lord, resting in him without words and listening to his voice in the silence of our hearts. He knows and understands our problems, and our great yearning for worldwide peace.

Service of the Healing of the Generations (Family Tree)
The Service of the Healing of the Generations takes place today Sunday 28th January in our Church led by Fr Cathal and team commencing with Holy Mass at 7pm and concludes at 8pm. Access on the webcam – https://www.mcn.live/Camera/st-johns-church.
Journey Through Lent
Will you journey with us for one hour each Wednesday through Lent as we reflect on the Word of God in preparation for a more personally meaningful Easter season? Led by Fr Séamus in our Church. We start on Wednesday 14th February, 7.30 – 8.30pm – hope you can join us. All welcome!

Feast of St Brigid – Beginning of Spring
We celebrate the beginning of Spring with some lovely Feasts. Thursday 1st is the Feast of our much-loved St Brigid – Gabhaim molta Bríghde. Ionmhain í le hÉirinn. Ionmhain le gach tír í. Molaimís go léir í! See various videos online re making a Brigid’s cross – children love this! If no reeds available, straws can be used.
- ‘Candlemas Day’ and Feast St Blaise
- On Friday 2nd Feb, Feast of the Presentation, candles will be blessed at 10am Mass. Candles will be in the Office and at the back of the Church before Mass for €2. Please put your name on the labels supplied with the candles, leave them to be blessed at Mass -collect and bring home after Mass.
- Feast of St Blaise, Saturday 3rd. Blessing of Throats with Church candles will take place at 10am in Bayside Church and 6pm Mass in our Church on Saturday.

While We Wait in Line
Every minute, someone leaves this world behind.
We are all in “the line” without knowing it.
We never know how many people are before us.
We cannot move to the back of the line.
We cannot avoid the line.
So while we wait in line –
Make moments count.
Make priorities.
Make the time.
Make your gifts known.
Make a nobody feel like a somebody.
Make your voice heard.
Make the small things big.
Make someone smile.
Make the change.
Make love.
Make up.
Make peace.
Make sure to tell your people they are loved.
Make sure to have no regrets.

Walk Beside Them
When someone is broken, don’t try to fix them. You can’t.
When someone is hurting, don’t attempt to take away their pain. You can’t.
Instead, love them by walking beside them in the hurt. You can.

It is said that before entering the sea
a river trembles with fear.
She looks back at the path she has traveled,
from the peaks of the mountains,

And in front of her,

The river cannot go back.
