Journey Through Lent – Invitation
Will you journey with us for one hour each Tuesday through Lent as we reflect on the Word of God in preparation for a more personally meaningful Easter season? Led by Fr Séamus in our Parish Centre.
Tuesdays in Lent, 7.15 – 8.15pm – hope you can join us on all or any of these. Most welcome!
‘For Lent we might like to organise a favourite place of prayer with reminders of the season: a crucifix, a candle, a little sand or soil representing the wilderness, etc.
All of the readings this week encourage us to keep our gaze fixed on God, always. The Lord will always hear our cries of distress and lead us to a land of peace, as he did for the Jewish people when they were enslaved in Egypt. (First Reading)
No harm shall befall us if we trust and follow the Lord. He will rescue and protect us. (Psalm)
If we believe in our hearts that Jesus is Lord and tell others that he was raised from the dead by God, then we will be saved. (Second Reading)
As the devil tempted Jesus, we may be tempted. Perhaps sometimes we rely on ourselves rather than on God or even find ourselves lusting for power. But like Jesus we can overcome these temptations if we are open to the Spirit and place our whole trust in God. (Gospel)
As Pilgrims of Hope in this Jubilee Year, we pray especially for all those who find it difficult to resist temptation, including those who exploit others for their own profit. We remember particularly this week all those who are victims of modern slavery.

Trócaire’s resource, “Listening to Nature” invites us, over four online workshops at 7.30pm from 19th March, to reconnect with nature and aims to help participants listen more deeply to God’s creation, to hear creation’s song and also creation’s cry. The methodology used in this resource is inspired by the four stages of the Synodal Process undertaken by the global and Irish Church in recent years. - Spiritual Thought for The Week
The word compassion is a word we don’t use much. It is another word for kindness but it’s more than that. Compassion is about feeling someone else’s pain and wanting to do something about it. Compassion is when we can walk in someone else’s shoes and we try to see, hear and feel what they are going through.
We all know what it’s like to walk with a tiny pebble in a shoe. It is most difficult. Sometimes someone has a pebble in a shoe that we have no idea about.
For some of us there can be a lot going on for each of us. We must never underestimate or take for granted what anybody might be going through right now.
Maybe we could contact someone you know who is going through a difficult time, and that is compassion at its best. We might need to receive this compassion and love today, or we might be the one to share this compassion and love with someone who needs it.
Jesus clearly knew compassion and love were so important. It is something he shared with so many. And often it’s the little moments of compassion and love that matter the most.

March soothes our winter-worn souls with anticipation, and its promise of more. It gently shakes our hibernating toes and whispers ‘wake now, your wintering days are done.’ And so, with each eager sunrise, we emerge, we reignite, re reenergise. And as with the nature around us, we begin to rise. Come on in, March, we have much longed for your light, for your joy, for your new. We are slowly rousing from slumber, welcome back.
