My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Weekly Reflection on the Scriptures

Reflection on Today’s Gospel
I have baptised you with water, but He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.
Today’s feast of the Baptism of Our Lord brings to an end the season of Christmas. Coming after the Epiphany of the Lord, it can be seen as a second manifestation of Christ, as the heavens are opened before the whole world. Through Christ’s baptism, in which the entire Trinity is present, the world is made into a second creation. This coming week, let’s strive to deepen our trust in the Father, who is our salvation; to nurture our faith in the Spirit, who works in us to ensure we do not return empty-handed; and to strengthen our joy in the Son, through whose incarnation and baptism we are made into God’s children.

The Year of 2020 By Pat O’Keeffe
It was the year of 2020,
Topics of conversation, there were plenty.
We had Donald Trump and his wall,
Coalition of old enemies in the Dáil.
Old rivals propped up by Eamonn Ryan,
Breaking Covid restrictions there was a fine.
More carbon taxes on fuel and gas,
And beyond five kilometres you could not pass.
The barber was shut and so was the pub,
And sit outdoors to eat your grub.
Mass in Church and no congregation,
Many businesses shut throughout the nation.
We had new phrases like ‘self isolate,’
Wearing of masks was a hot debate.
Rotating Taoiseach every two years,
Only with a meal could you buy spirits and beers.
We watched sports on TV with no fans,
Our Government imposed more restrictions and bans.
‘Social distancing’ killed the hug and the kiss,
Overseas travel we had to dismiss.
A pandemic that killed many millions,
Governments borrowing billions and billions.
Covid 19 was all our common foe,
The fall of Trump and the rise of sleepy Joe.
We had Britain and Brexit led by Boris,
First woman Vice-President is Kamala Harris.
A vaccine is coming and we live in hope,
More lockdown restrictions, we no longer can cope.
Six-in-a-row the Dubs made history,
In an empty Croke Park, no cheers for their victory.
Covid the killjoy said we couldn’t congregate.
No fans to cheer and to celebrate.
We didn’t forget Limerick on their win too,
Only from home could we congratulate you.
Both finals played in the Christmas season,
And Covid 19 was the reason.
We thank our hospitals, and all the front line,
Your courage and care all else did outshine.
Thank you for caring for the sick and the old,
And never putting your commitment on hold.
We hope 2021 will be a better year,
Hugs and kisses and travel without fear.
Twenty-twenty we will remember forever,
And go back to normal is our hope and endeavour.
