The Building Hope Prayer
Pilgrim God, we give you thanks and praise. You constantly journey with us even in our darkness and doubts. We seek your way of loving kindness to walk together as one family.
Open our eyes to recognise you in the faces of one another, in the breaking of bread and in the splendour of creation. May the risen Christ sow seeds of hope and new life deep within us. May our hearts and minds be filled with your Word, bringing forth truth, justice and peace. May the Holy Spirit working in and through us do much more than we can dare to imagine as we live out our baptismal calling in humble and loving service. We make this our prayer through Christ Our Lord. Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. St Laurence O’Toole, pray for us. St Kevin, pray for us. St Brigid, pray for us.
Eucharistic Adoration

Weekly Reflection on the Scriptures Resumes
Contact Sr Phyllis at 086-890-9488 with your email address and join us on Zoom any Monday night from 3rd October 7.30pm to reflect on the liturgy for the following Sunday. It is so rewarding and enhances participation at Mass on the day.

Safeguarding Sunday 25th September
“Safeguarding – A Gospel value” – theme for this year.
If we just see the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults as a response to the Church’s failings of the past, we fail to understand its true meaning. Central to the Gospels we listen to every week, is Jesus reaching out to children and vulnerable adults. We see Jesus rebuke the disciples in a line from Matthew’s gospel where He says, “let the children come to me, don’t stop them”. Unless you become like one of these little ones, you shall not enter the Kingdom of God. In all four Gospels, we see Jesus reaching out to the most vulnerable, the blind, the lame, the leper or the sinner. Here we see the true meaning of safeguarding.
The practices that we put in place in this parish, as in all parishes in the diocese, to keep children and vulnerable adults safe include such measures as: Choosing carefully those who work with children and vulnerable adults in our parish, which includes vetting of those involved; Ensuring parish workers and volunteers behave appropriately towards children and vulnerable adults; Making proper arrangements for activities involving children and vulnerable adults, including ensuring adequate supervision of such activities.
Reflection on Readings for this Sunday
The readings this Sunday present a stark call to wake up from complacency and comfort, so that we may focus our lives on the Lord and respond with compassion and love to the needs of the poor. The prophet Amos (First Reading) warns those who revel in fine living and the safety of material things. Second Reading reminds us to centre our lives on Christ, and in so doing be filled with faith, love, patience and gentleness. The Gospel – Jesus tackles head-on the challenge of wealth and poverty. Jesus speaks as a prophet: for some, the truth of his Gospel and Resurrection will not be enough for them to let go of their reliance on material wealth and security. This week may our prayer life lead us to respond with compassionate action to the needs of our less fortunate sisters and brothers across the world.
Prayer for Ukraine
Holy and Gracious God. We pray for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia, for their countries and their leaders. We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear. We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness. We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace. We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they may be inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ. Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine. And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son. Lord, have mercy. Amen.

I Saw Her Struggles There
I asked her if she was ok and she said “I’m fine I swear.”
But when I looked into her eyes, I clearly saw her struggles there.
She quickly looked away and tried her best to smile.

I Am Watching
They warned me your childhood would whizz by in a flash. They warned me and I laughed, because then, each day felt like a lifetime. Each sleepless night was a year, each hour of the day was an age.
All my energy was consumed, with keeping you alive, happy, thriving. Your smiles became my goal, your laughter my reward, your tears my every waking concern. And here we are my love, you have grown.

Where was I? The last time you snuggled into my lap to read. The last time I lifted your warm little body to mould into mine, that fit, just right. The last time you crawled into my safe space, in the dark of the night.
