Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

| In 563 the Irish monk, Columba, established a monastic settlement on the tiny Hebridean island of Iona, which became a major centre of early European Christianity. A Benedictine abbey, established in Iona in the Middle Ages, continued to attract many thousands of people on their own pilgrim journeys. Reflection on Today’s Liturgy
‘My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit exults in God my saviour!’
The Feast of the Assumption marks the special place that Mary, chosen to be the Mother of Jesus, has in the life of the Church. We celebrate that she was taken, body and soul, into heaven, when her life on earth was over.
In the First Reading, a woman, taken to be either Mary or the Early Church, safely delivers her son into the world. Although threatened by the dragon (representing the power of evil), the child – the Messiah who would rule all the nations – was taken directly to God. The woman herself escaped to a place of safety.
St Paul tells the Corinthians that through Jesus’ death and resurrection, all followers of Christ can look forward to a risen life with Jesus, and to a new fullness of life with God. (Second Reading)
The Gospel tells of Mary’s visitation to her sister, Elizabeth. In Mary’s hymn of praise, the Magnificat, we see her faith and complete trust in God.
This week, we may like to ask Mary to intercede for us as we pray for the grace of knowing God’s will for us, and to follow her example in always saying an unconditional ‘yes’. We also offer thanks for all the great things the Almighty has done for us.
The Feast of the Assumption at Knock Shrine
This Sunday at 11am, Mass will be celebrated at Knock Shrine to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady into heaven. This will be live-streamed worldwide and will also be shown on RTE1. It will be available on RTE Playback. This year, In March, Pope Francis officially recognised Knock as an International Marian Shrine.
Dymphna Murray, R.I.P.
We celebrate the first anniversary of Dymphna this week. Dymphna was very much involved in our Parish in a number of ministries, especially the Funeral team. We remember her family who were deeply saddened and shocked at her unexpected death due to a fall – her daughters Lisa, Aideen and their families in New Zealand, her son David in Dublin and her extended family and friends. May she rest in peace.
Confirmation and First Holy Communion
We are now working with the Diocese to set dates for the sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion and plan to start on Saturday, 4th September. We are very aware that the children have been disappointed at the delay due to these difficult times and we look forward to meeting them soon.

Archbishop Farrell is asking everyone to pray on a regular basis for vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. As you are well aware, the need is great, so let’s answer God’s call and “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send labourers into his harvest”.
Families Walking Together in Hope
The ‘Walking Together in Hope’ initiative will be launched on 25th August at St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral. Starting in September, the Archdiocese of Dublin will provide some simple and achievable ideas for families and parishes.

Accord Catholic Marriage Care Service CLG is recruiting volunteers to train as marriage preparation programme facilitators. ALONE manages a support line and additional supports for older people who have concerns or are facing difficulties relating to COVID-19. Professional staff answer queries and give advice and reassurance on the support line, open all week, 8am-8pm, 0818 222 024.
