Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
Reflection on Today’s Gospel
‘I am the bread of life’
Today’s readings demonstrate how our Father draws us closer to himself, and – through Jesus Christ – nourishes and sustains us with the living bread of the Eucharist.
The prophet Elijah is convinced he’s a failure, and is fleeing for his life into the wilderness. However, an angel of God rouses him from his depression, and comforts and nourishes him for his long journey to the ‘mountain of God’. (First Reading)
In the Gospel, those hostile to Jesus are complaining against him, confused by and misunderstanding his teachings. But Jesus challenges their criticism directly: he is the one who has come to reveal the Father to them. Jesus teaches that he himself is the true, living bread from heaven; bread that gives life for ever.
Let us pray this week for an openness to the Lord’s tender, nourishing care, especially when we experience times of alienation, self-doubt or despair. We pray to deepen our acknowledgment of our human vulnerability, and our utter dependence on God’s grace and love.
Confirmation and First Holy Communion
The sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion will be celebrated in this Parish in early Autumn. We are very aware that the children have been disappointed at the delay due to these difficult times and we look forward to meeting them soon.
Family Offerings
We receive regular family offerings from a family – envelope number 324. However, we do not know who this is so would appreciate it if the family would contact Janice 01-8390433 in the Office to arrange for updating of the records.
Annual Charity Tax Refund Scheme
We are sending out forms for updating to 47 parishioners for the annual charity tax refund scheme and would appreciate it if they are completed and returned signed and including PPS number. These forms will suffice for five years – if you prefer a yearly one, please contact Janice. If you do not wish to be involved, please let the parish office know.

Praying for Vocations
Archbishop Farrell is asking everyone to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life on a regular basis. As you are well aware, the need is great, so let’s answer God’s call and “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send labourers into his harvest”.
Families Walking Together in Hope
The ‘Walking Together in Hope’ initiative will be launched on 25th August at St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral. Starting in September, the Archdiocese of Dublin will provide some simple and achievable ideas for families and parishes.

Accord Catholic Marriage Care Service CLG is recruiting volunteers to train as marriage preparation programme facilitators. Covid -19 Support Line for Older People
ALONE manages a support line and additional supports for older people who have concerns or are facing difficulties relating to COVID-19. Professional staff answer queries and give advice and reassurance on the support line, open all week, 8am-8pm, 0818 222 024.
New Office for Mission and Ministry
Archbishop Farrell has appointed Patricia Carroll of the Office of Evangelisation and Ecumenism, as Director of the Office for Mission and Ministry. We congratulate Patricia and pray God’s blessing as she takes on this key leadership role at an interesting time of change and new possibilities in the life of the Church in Dublin.

Avoid Destination Addiction
Beware of Destination Addiction – a preoccupation that happiness is in the next place, the next job and with the next partner. Until you give up the idea that happiness is somewhere else, it will never be where you are.
A Walk in the Mountains
A son and his father were walking on the mountains.
Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams.
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain.
Curious, he yells: ‘‘Who are you?”
He receives the answer: “Who are you?”
And then he screams to the mountain: “I admire you!”
The voice answers: “I admire you!”
Angered at the response, he screams: “Coward!”
He receives the answer: “Coward!”
He looks to his father and asks: “What’s going on?”
The father smiles and says: “My son, pay attention.”
The man screams: “You are a champion!”

The boy does not understand. Then the father explains:

Our life is simply a reflection of our actions.
If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence.
This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life. Life will give you back everything you have given to it. Your life is not a coincidence. It’s a reflection of you!
