Journey Through Lent – Invitation

As we celebrate Lá Fhéile Pádraig may we be grateful for our rich heritage, for our ancestors who celebrated the Eucharist at Mass rocks, walked many miles, some barefoot, fasting from the night before to get to Mass.
Reflection on Sunday Readings
This Sunday’s readings encourage us to stir from our own darkness and turn to growth and transformation out of pain and suffering. The prophet Jeremiah proclaims: ‘See, the days are coming … when I will make a new covenant with the House of Israel.’ God’s eternal covenant of love and forgiveness is written deep within our hearts (First Reading). It is because of this same promise, that Christ became human to share with us in our suffering, forever praying for us and with us (Second Reading). In Christ, all suffering and death are transfigured into growth and new life through his resurrection.
This Sunday’s Psalm encourages us to turn from our sinful ways towards God’s love and compassion.
In the Gospel, Jesus speaks of the personal suffering and death that he is facing. He knows that he could ask his Father to save him from this fate, but he willingly makes a choice that leads to our salvation. Jesus invites us to follow his way of living. It is not an easy path to travel, but Christ is always with us, helping and sustaining us. Let us pray for each other that through God’s infinite grace, we will remain true to the law of love that is written within us.
Trócaire 2024
In the Gospel today we see the image of the wheat grain that falls on the ground and dies. We are reminded of the process of death that comes before new life. Each day we are called to die to our selfishness so that we can be renewed and become who we are meant to be in the eyes of our Creator. Take time this week to remind yourself of the story of Mahlet, on the side of the Trócaire box. Pray that our lifestyles may be renewed so that young lives like Mahlet’s who are experiencing first-hand the destructive effects of climate change may be eased.

She was a strong country woman
Scent of baked bread wafts from her oven

All ten children she was very fond

She always struggled financially
After the Rosary she recited the Loreto Litany
Mornings and evenings she milked cows by hand
She sowed potatoes and vegetables on the land
She multitasked in so many ways
Not enough hours in her working days
On the Singer sewing machine a patchwork quilt
Under her burdens she did not wilt
By the fireside she silently fingered her beads
And to Mary in Heaven for us she pleads.
She is now in Heaven with Mary and the Lord
After her life on Earth she has her just reward
With her Singer sewing machine making heavenly garments
And from Heaven to her children, she whispers soothing encouragements.
Keep Believing
The key to growth is to keep believing you can do anything 🌹 BELIEVE IN YOUR INFINITE POTENTIAL. YOUR ONLY LIMITATIONS ARE THOSE YOU SET UPON YOURSELF 🌹 . Forgive All
Hate no one, no matter how much they’ve wronged you. Live humbly, no matter how wealthy you become. Think positively, no matter how hard life is. Give much, even if you’ve been given little. Forgive all, especially yourself. And never stop praying for the best for everyone.
God’s Work
A little girl was sitting on her grandfather’s lap as he read her a bedtime story. From time to time, she would take her eyes off the book and reach up to touch his wrinkled cheek. She was alternately stroking her own cheek, then his again. Finally, she spoke up, “Grandpa, did God make you?” “Yes, sweetheart,” he answered. “God made me a long time ago.” “Oh,” she paused. “Grandpa, did God make me too?” “Yes, indeed, honey,” he said. “God made you just a little while ago.” Feeling their respective faces again, the little girl observed, “God’s getting better at it, isn’t He?”
