Seán Canning, RIP, late of Foxfield Grove.
Our thoughts are prayers are with his wife Maura, their four children, friends, and neighbours.
May he rest in peace.
Seán was involved in many aspects of our Parish life for many years. He was a long-established member of the local St Vincent de Paul Conference. His kindness, understanding and compassion for those on the margins was authentic and real. From the ‘birth’ of Naomh Barróg, Seán was a valued member and the first Chairman of the Club. Seán and his Committee, laid the foundations, created the ethos, and set the vision that has guided and influenced Naomh Barróg
to the present day.
He was a warm friendly man, with an abundance of
stories to share.
He will be missed very much.

Building Hope Novena
You are warmly invited to join once again with every parish in the Diocese in a Novena to the Holy Spirit – our dedicated period of prayer, reflection and planning for the renewal of the Church in the Archdiocese of Dublin. The Novena will take place 12th-20th May beginning on the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord, through Pentecost and continuing to the Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church. As well as being a time of prayer, this Novena time can be used to plan for the pastoral year ahead guided by the Spirit. Some Building Hope Novena Prayer Cards are available on the back table of our Church for you to take.
Reflection on Sunday Readings
‘As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Remain in my love.’
Today’s readings centre on the theme of love: the totally faithful, unconditional love of God for us.
The First Reading describes a turning point in the growth of the Early Church. Peter visits the house of Cornelius, a Roman centurion and Gentile, saying that ‘God does not have favourites’ and reaches out to those who listen to him through his Holy Spirit. He creates a community of love that embraces all humanity.
St John (Second Reading) reminds us that God loved us first. God’s nature is love. The great depth of that love is revealed in God sending Jesus, whose self-sacrifice redeems our sins and draws us into the life of God.
The Gospel shows us Jesus teaching his disciples about his loving relationship with his Father. Jesus chooses and invites us into that same intimate relationship. He tells us how to follow him -we should love one another.
We pray for the grace that we ourselves might reflect the gift of God’s love, through our actions to our brothers and sisters, and to all creation. We also give thanks for the love of our friends, and for the joy that they bring to our lives.
Four Seasons Collection
The next collection will take place next weekend 11th/12th May. The first project on our list to complete in 2024 is to resurface the parish car park. So far, we have raised €15,498.31. We thank all who have continued to support our Parish Projects Fund. The amount quoted for the Car Park Resurface estimates at around €27,000. We have a shortfall of just over €11,500. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
Repository Shop
Communion Rosary Beads, Books and Cards, Confirmation Cards and Baptismal Candles are for sale in our Repository. These can be purchased after Masses.
St. Fintan’s Cemetery Mass will take place on
Sunday, 9th June at 12.00 noon.

Charity Tax Refund 2022
Recently we posted out the Charity Tax Refund CHY Forms for the 2022 claims. These forms need to be updated every 5 years. Our Parish Secretary, Janice, will submit the claim during the summer for the 2022 refund. We would encourage parishioners to return their forms to Janice in the Parish Office. If you wish to be removed from the list, call Janice on 01 839 0433.
Please note that this Charity Scheme in no way affects your own personal taxes with Revenue. It only allows our Church to get a refund on contributions made over €250 in one tax year. We need your permission to make this claim which is why we post the CHY forms to
you for signing. We urge everyone who qualifies to take part. We can claim up to 42% on donations over €250. This is a vital income for our own Church of St John the Evangelist. ALL REFUNDS STAY IN THE PARISH FUNDS. Please feel free to call into the Parish Office if you have any questions about the Charity Tax Scheme. We will be happy to explain it in more detail.
New Pilgrim Path and Skellig Michael
Visitors to New Pilgrim Path ask about the significance of the breath-taking images of Skellig Michael on the website. Just 500 years after the death and resurrection of Christ, the first monks arrived on this remote island, 12km from Ireland’s southwest coast at the edge of the then known world. The Evening Jesus Was Coming to Dinner
Ruth went to her mailbox and there was only one letter.
“Dear Ruth: I am going to be in your neighbourhood on Saturday, and I’d like to stop by for a visit. Love Always, Jesus.
” Why would the Lord want to visit me?” With that thought, Ruth remembered her emptied kitchen cabinets. “Oh my goodness, I really don’t have anything to offer. I’ll have to buy something for dinner.”
She reached for her purse. Five dollars and forty cents. At the shop she bought a loaf of French bread, a half-pound of sliced turkey, and a carton of milk, leaving her with twelve cents.
As she headed home, she heard a voice. “Hey lady, can you help us, lady?”
A woman and a man huddled in the alleyway.
“Sir, I’d like to help you, but I’m a poor woman myself. All I have is a few cold cuts and some bread, and I’m having an important guest for dinner.
“Yeah, well, okay lady, I understand. Thanks anyway.”
The man put his arm around the woman’s shoulders, turned and headed back into the alley.
As she watched them leave, Ruth felt a familiar twinge in her heart.
“Sir, wait!” The couple stopped and turned as she ran down the alley after them. “Look, why don’t you take this food. I’ll figure out something else to serve my guest.”
“Thank you, lady. Thank you very much!”
“Yes, thank you!” It was the man’s wife, and Ruth could see now that she was shivering.
“You know, I’ve got another coat at home. Here, why don’t you take this one.”
Thank you lady! Thank you very much!”
Ruth was chilled by the time she reached her front door. She fumbled through her purse for the door key. But as she did, she noticed another envelope in her mailbox.
“That’s odd. The mailman doesn’t usually come twice in one day.” She took the envelope out of the box and opened it.
“Dear Ruth, It was so good to see you again. Thank you for the lovely meal. And thank you, too, for the beautiful coat. Love Always, 0Jesus.”
Thought for the Week
“People you love never die. Not completely. They live in your mind, the way they always lived inside you. You keep their light alive. If you remember them well enough, they can still guide you, like the shine of long-extinguished stars could guide ships in unfamiliar waters.”
