Four Seasons Collection
The collection will take place THIS WEEKEND 11th/12th May. The first project on our list to complete in 2024 is to resurface the parish car park. So far, we have raised €15,498.31. We thank all who have continued to support our Parish Projects Fund. The amount quoted for the Car Park Resurface estimates at around €27,000. We have a shortfall of just over €11,500. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
Building Hope Novena
You are warmly invited to join once again with every parish in the Diocese in a Novena to the Holy Spirit – our dedicated period of prayer, reflection and planning for the renewal of the Church in the Archdiocese of Dublin. The Novena will take place 12th-20th May beginning on the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord, through Pentecost and continuing to the Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church. As well as being a time of prayer, this Novena time can be used to plan for the pastoral year ahead guided by the Spirit. Some Building Hope Novena Prayer Cards are available on the back table of our Church for you to take.
Reflection on Sunday Readings
We continue to follow the development of the infant Church and St John’s theme of God’s love for us.
In the First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles, the disciples come together to discern and pray, to choose an apostle to replace Judas. The lot falls to Matthias.
The Psalm is a hymn of praise and describes the love of God that covers the whole universe.
The Second Reading emphasises that God’s love for us is the reason and example for our love for each other. As long as we do this, God will live in us, and will share his Spirit with us.
In the Gospel, taken from Jesus’s priestly prayer to the Father, Jesus prays that the disciples will remain true to his name. As the Father sent Jesus into the world, so he now sends his followers
The readings lead us to contemplate the love and unity within the Trinity, a fitting preparation this week as we look towards Pentecost.

Pilgrim God, we give you thanks and praise.
You constantly journey with us even
in our darkness and doubts.
We seek your way of loving kindness
to walk together as one family.
Open our eyes to recognise you in
the faces of one another,
in the breaking of bread and in the
splendour of creation.
May the risen Christ sow seeds of hope
and new life deep within us.
May our hearts and minds be filled with your Word, bringing forth truth, justice and peace.
May the Holy Spirit working in and through us
do much more than we can dare to imagine
as we live out our baptismal calling
in humble and loving service.

‘BUMPER BOOK AND BUN FEST!’
Our Church needs urgent help to fund vital maintenance work – some completed and some on-going. The completed work could not have happened without your generous donations. In an effort to ‘do our bit’ to help, we will have a “Bumper Book and Bun Fest”, 4pm-7.30pm Saturday 25thth; 10am-3pm Sunday 26th May in the Parish Centre. All are invited to come along to browse the books, donate and enjoy a delicious cream tea. All proceeds donated will go towards the car park resurfacing.
New Pilgrim Path – Gerald Manley Hopkins
Gerard Manley Hopkins, one the Victorian era’s greatest poets, converted to Catholicism after reading John Henry Newman’s account of his own conversion. Hopkins decided to become a priest himself, and in 1867 he entered a Jesuit novitiate near London. He became deeply influenced by 13th century Franciscan philosopher-theologian John Duns Scotus. God, according to Scotus, is continuously choosing each created thing specifically to exist, moment by moment. Hopkins’ revolutionary poetry is infused by this belief. The Human Heart Won’t Lead You Astray
The cashier appeared to be one of the most unhappy, maddest people ever. I was six deep in the line and she got more exasperated with each passing customer.
She was especially incensed when one of my unmarked items needed a price check. It sent this poor woman toppling right over the edge. But as she rang up my items, I felt a little tingle in my spirit. A soul nudge.
I tried to bargain with Jesus and told him that the extra bit of cash in the back of my wallet was not meant for her.
But God did not budge. Nor did the tingle. The human heart is our very best compass. It rarely leads us astray.
So I paid my bill and reluctantly, slipped her some cash. She was caught off-guard by the gesture.
Her loud, stern voice got quiet when she whispered a single word: “Why?” To which I answered: “Soul nudge.”
When she grabbed my hand, I was the one caught off-guard. “Today’s my 75th birthday and nobody called me. Not my sister. None of my kids. None these people here. Nobody. Nothing. I don’t think I can remember ever being so sad. Ain’t nobody even remembers it’s my birthday?”
I felt the tingle again. “Somebody remembered,” I said. While I did not see Jesus, that small soul nudge told me that He saw her.
The birthday news had made its way beside me, and two more customers connected. There was a small chorus of chirping happy birthdays. She just stood there, patting her heart, and taking it all in. The words penetrated. Anger dissipated. Hope manifested. The tingle became tangible.
We just never know what someone else may be navigating or battling. Things are not always as they seem.
We are living in an upside-down world right now.
Let’s be slow to judge. And quick to obey. Trust the Holy Spirit to lead the way.
The human heart, guided by Love, will not lead you astray.
