The ANNUAL COLLECTION for ACCORD Dublin, the Diocesan Agency for Marriage and the Family, will be made at all Masses THIS WEEKEND

Jesus came down with them and stood on a level place
Luke’s ‘edgy’ Beatitudes and Woes (Gospel) show a Jesus truly in touch with the plight of the downtrodden, the poor, the forgotten. Jesus is determined that people don’t see society’s judgment of them as saying something about the judgement of God. Despite the direst circumstances of their lives, they are not outside God’s grace.
Jesus knew, as we do today, that not everyone who places their trust in God prospers in all that they do (Psalm). He also saw that the way of the wicked, far from leading to doom, was sometimes very profitable.
But Jesus did want to challenge the commonly held perception of Jeremiah (First Reading), who preached that the cursed are those who have turned from God, whilst those who trust in God are always blessed and fruitful.
St Paul (Second Reading) says that the scandalous image of Christ crucified, cursed and parched, never ceased to be the image of the fulness of God’s grace. Christ was vindicated in his resurrection, by which the fruitfulness of redemption is made accessible for all.
As Pilgrims of Hope in this Jubilee year, let’s pray during the coming week that, like our Saviour, we might also be bearers of hope for those who feel lost through poverty, through grief, or because of rejection in its many forms.

There is a line from the letter to the Hebrews and it read: ‘Jesus is the same today, as he was yesterday and as he will be forever.’ His message of love, peace, kindness, light, hope, healing and more, is as relevant today as it always has been. It will never grow old or get outdated.
Even though there can be lots of sad and bad news making the headlines every day, we are not to get discouraged. The world we live in today can sometimes be harsh with no soft landings. We keep our heads up; we stay strong and spiritually it is our belief that Jesus is with us every day.
Jesus brings many blessings to people; they are never forced and always ours if we want them. Everybody needs some healing. Pray for healing that you need right now. Whichever way we pray, or whatever words we use, are unique to us. But pray for gentle, loving healing, and especially the healing you need right now.

Nothing Lasts Forever
You will grieve people who are still alive, as well as those passed on. You will grieve shattered dreams, and you will grieve versions of yourself, and others, you had to break free from. But that’s okay. In this life nothing lasts forever but with that same truth comes the knowledge that all pain will lose its bite too and great new things will miraculously emerge. Wonderful new people who shine light into your soul will come on in, if you leave space.
And as long as you cry when you must, laugh when you can and love those you have every day that your little broken heart still beats, you will be okay. You will be okay.
