Míle buíochas to everyone who celebrated Fr Cathal’s 90th Birthday last Sunday and especially to those who were involved in the preparations for the Mass and the wonderful ‘reception’ in the Parish Centre.

The Lord is compassionate and gracious
The readings encourage us to be compassionate, towards ourselves, towards others, and in all we do.
In the First Reading, David does not give way to revenge when he finds Saul asleep, vulnerable and under his power. David has a choice and acts with loyalty and restraint. Saul has persecuted him, but David now spares his life because Saul is the Lord’s anointed one.
The Psalm is a song of praise, describing with gratitude God’s own compassion and love towards all.
St Paul teaches us that although we are earthly by nature, by modelling ourselves on Christ, the second Adam, we receive his life-giving spirit. (Second Reading) All of the readings prepare us for Jesus’ challenging teaching in the Gospel. Jesus encourages us to love our enemies, to do good to those who hurt us, to lend without expecting a reward, to love without counting the cost. This is the way Jesus and his Father love us.
As Pilgrims of Hope in this Jubilee Year, we may wish to pray particularly for a spirit of reconciliation and forgiveness in our own lives, our communities, our country, and in all the situations of war, strife, injustice and suffering in our world.

Spiritual Thought for The Week
We have just celebrated Valentine’s weekend. The focus may have been romantic love, but there are many other types of love too, spiritual love, sacred love, gentle love, simple love, joyful love, healing love, self-love, single love, caring love, family love and the love between friends. All love must have a source, and this source is our loving God.
A prayer to celebrate love -” Loving God, I know you are the source of love and you are love itself. Draw me deeper into your love. Strengthen and inspire me to live your love with generosity and joy, with imagination and courage. Help me to know that the smallest act of love makes a big difference. Even when life knocks me off course, help me to find myself in your love every day. You remind us in scripture that only three words really matter: faith, hope and love and the greatest of these is love.”

Pope Francis
This week we hold Pope Francis in our thoughts and prayers that he may return to good health very soon.
In a recent homily he said – “Christian communities can be harbingers of a new humanity in a world that, in the most ‘developed’ areas, shows serious symptoms of human crisis,” he said. “In the most technologically advanced nations, ‘proximity’ is disappearing: We are all interconnected but not related.” The Holy Father decried how obsession with efficiency, materialism, ambition, and self-centeredness has created a culture of loneliness and indifference in wealthy nations.
The gospel this week reminds us of Jesus’ teaching about not judging others. Jesus warns us against judging because it leads to unfairness and a lack of compassion. When we judge, we often don’t know the whole story and can hurt others with our assumptions
The thing about grief is
