Pope Leo XIV this Week
Ukraine Appeal: The Pope called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine during his Angelus address, stressing that “peace cannot be postponed”.
Lenten Focus: He has urged the faithful to use Lent to focus on silence and prayer, rather than just digital distractions.
Reflection on Sunday Readings
‘Rise, have no fear.’
Traditionally on this second Sunday of Lent, we read and pray with the Transfiguration of Jesus. Matthew, Mark and Luke, all tell us that this event took place on a high mountain. It is an episode that gives us a glimpse of both Jesus’s humanity and his divinity, where Jesus reassures his friends – and us – that there is no need to be afraid, even as we witness such extraordinary things. (Gospel)
In the First Reading, the Lord speaks to Abram, telling him to leave behind everything he knows. The promise of great blessings will follow.
The Psalm reflects on the faithfulness of God’s word. He will be our help and shield if, like Abram, we place our hope in him.
Both Abram’s call and the disciples’ witnessing of the Transfiguration do not occur as a reward, but by God’s ‘own purpose and grace’ (Second Reading). Paul encourages Timothy to accept the hardships he encounters, relying on the power of God, and strengthened by the grace of the appearing of Jesus Christ.
We may like to focus our prayer this week on all those who are afraid, asking that they place their hope in the Lord and experience the comfort of his love.
Trócaire – Lent 2026
The next storm could destroy everything this family has built. You can help Uwamahoro, the mother on our Trócaire box, to repair and rebuild her family’s future. We pray that governments, policymakers, communities and individuals will urgently work together to alleviate the effects of climate change especially on those communities who suffer most from its impacts.
Please take a Trócaire box from the back table and donate as you can. We invite everyone to bring the boxes to the Church during Holy Week to be brought forward during the Mass on Holy Thursday for Trócaire.

Journey Through Lent – Invitation
Will you journey with us for one hour each Tuesday through Lent, in the Parish Centre, as we reflect on the Word of God in preparation for a more personally meaningful Easter season. Tuesdays in Lent, 7.30 – 8.30pm – hope you can join us on all or any of these. All welcome!
“Protecting our Common Home”, updated recently for Lent includes some resources, including “Handy Hints and Behaviours” – a simple checklist to help individuals assess their daily behaviours in terms of environmental impact. It provides several suggestions for making small changes in behaviour and actions which can make an enormous difference.
