The Building Hope Prayer

Pilgrim God, we give you thanks and praise. You constantly journey with us even in our darkness and doubts. We seek your way of loving kindness to walk together as one family.
Open our eyes to recognise you in the faces of one another, in the breaking of bread and in the splendour of creation. May the risen Christ sow seeds of hope and new life deep within us. May our hearts and minds be filled with your Word, bringing forth truth, justice and peace. May the Holy Spirit working in and through us do much more than we can dare to imagine as we live out our baptismal calling in humble and loving service. We make this our prayer through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. St Laurence O’Toole, pray for us. St Kevin, pray for us. St Brigid, pray for us.

Fr Peter’s Appointment as Parish Priest

On all parishioners’ behalf we extend very best wishes to Fr Peter as he begins his term of office as Parish Priest of Bayside and Kilbarrack/Foxfield parishes and assure him of any necessary support and assistance in these changing and challenging times. See below the letter of appointment from Archbishop Farrell

Dear Fr Peter,

I am grateful to you for having accepted the appointment of Parish Priest of the Parish of Bayside and the Parish of Kilbarrack/Foxfield, with effect from the weekend of 20th/21st August 2022. I thank you for your ministry over the past six years in these parishes. I wish you every blessing for this new stage of your priestly ministry.

Your new appointment will be for a three-year period.

You begin your new ministry in challenging times. I know that you will work to build up a strong parish team, involving lay faithful, as you work to support the active members of the parish community, as well as those who have drifted away. I would ask you to devote special attention to the youth of the parish and to young families.

With prayerful good wishes,

Yours sincerely,

Dermot Farrell, Archbishop of Dublin.

Dues Collection

We extend many thanks to those parishioners who have contributed to the summer dues collection. This is very much appreciated. Envelopes are still available at the back of the church for those who wish to contribute.

Reflection on Readings for this Sunday
The last shall be first …’

This Sunday’s scripture tells us that our God is one who desires to gather all people, from far and wide and from lands that have never heard of the Lord. God also wishes to reach those who are considered last, those who are overlooked.  Today’s readings show a Lord with priorities that differ from the norm.  The ones anticipating a place at the banquet will lose it, but those expecting no place at the feast will be offered one (Gospel).  Those who have never seen or heard of God’s glory will be the ones to see it (First Reading).  Those experiencing suffering are to remember that they are God’s children and not forgotten (Second Reading). This week may we go out into the whole of the world and proclaim the Good News through our lives (Psalm). We remember those who are suffering in war and conflict in Ukraine and beyond.

Eucharistic Adoration

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place from 11am-3pm from Tuesday to Friday each week.

Prayer for Ukraine

Holy and Gracious God.  We pray for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia, for their countries and their leaders. We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear. We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness. We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace. We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they may be inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ. Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine. And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son. Lord, have mercy.  Amen.

New Pilgrim Path

41 years after her death, the Catholic church has opened the case for Dorothy Day’s possible canonisation. Her journey led this single mother from atheism, communism and anarchy to radical Catholicism. She called all believers to fight racism, war and poverty. She sheltered and fed New York City’s homeless through the Great Depression. She was jailed and mistreated in her relentless campaigns for social justice. To watch a PBS documentary on this extraordinary woman, see newpilgrimpath.ie

Be big and Bold

“You will be wrong and you will be bad quite often. That is the process of growing. Keep failing but keep listening and keep learning. Do not let the failures allow you to shrink and to move into some small corner to do your work: Always be big and bold. Take risks. No one grows without a lot of stumbling.” Tennessee Williams.

Children     (Matt 19:13 -15)

They can be little angels, imps or elves

But they know how to be themselves

No masks or pretence, they are what they are

Tomorrow and the future, not a worldly care

Uncomplicated like animals and flowers

No lofty ideals to build ivory towers

Not conscious of expectation or approval

Immersed in simple things like a sand bucket and shovel

Finding joy with a simple toy, or kicking a ball

In worldly ambitions, no interest at all

Childlikeness is rootedness in what God wants me to be

No looking for approval and the world to like me

“Do not stop them coming to Me,” says the Lord

Be like a child and Heaven will be your reward.

I’m Slowly Learning

I’m slowly learning that the energy it takes to react to every bad thing that happens to you drains you and stops you from seeing the other good things in life. I’m slowly learning that I’m not going to be everyone’s cup of tea and I won’t be able to get everyone to treat me the way I want to be treated and that’s okay. I’m slowly learning that trying so hard to ‘win’ anyone is just a waste of time and energy and it fills you with nothing but emptiness.

Rania Naim

Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

 The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Being a Hero Doesn’t Mean Being Perfect

“There are times we stumble and fall. It’s during those times, that we mustn’t forget how Brave and Strong we really are.   With Faith, Hope and Courage, we get back up each time. Being a Hero doesn’t mean being perfect.

It means to learn and grow with each and every step we take, whether they move forward or back. It means to be kind and gentle with ourselves while we are on this journey of recovery and self-discovery. Most of all, it means to keep going and to never, ever give up.”
