The Building Hope Prayer

Pilgrim God, we give you thanks and praise. You constantly journey with us even in our darkness and doubts. We seek your way of loving kindness to walk together as one family.
Open our eyes to recognise you in the faces of one another, in the breaking of bread and in the splendour of creation. May the risen Christ sow seeds of hope and new life deep within us. May our hearts and minds be filled with your Word, bringing forth truth, justice and peace. May the Holy Spirit working in and through us do much more than we can dare to imagine as we live out our baptismal calling in humble and loving service. We make this our prayer through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. St Laurence O’Toole, pray for us. St Kevin, pray for us. St Brigid, pray for us.

Dues Collection

We extend many thanks to those parishioners who have contributed to the summer dues collection. This is very much appreciated. Envelopes are still available at the back of the church for those who wish to contribute.

Reflection on Readings for this Sunday

The readings for this Sunday speak of humility and help us think about the order of things in the kingdom of God.

The First Reading advises us to be gentle, humble and attentive, warning against pride. God is the source of whatever strength and goodness we have. By behaving humbly, we will find the Lord’s favour, which is all that finally matters. This theme is echoed in the Gospel, where Jesus teaches us how to live according to his vision of a good society. Everyone is invited and welcomed equally, for we share a common humanity. By caring for and putting others first, ‘repayment will be made to you when the virtuous rise again.’ The Psalmist sings of God’s care for those on the margins, rejoicing at God’s generosity to his people, bringing them new life. The author of the Second Reading urges the Hebrews, and us, to remain faithful. Jesus, as mediator, has instituted a new covenant for his followers, and we can each celebrate our identity as a child of God and ‘citizen of heaven’. There is no need to be afraid: we are not alone but part of God’s family.

Let’s rejoice, and like the psalmist, sing our praises to the Lord for his generosity. May we be attentive and gentle in all we say and do this week, always responding to God’s call. We continue to pray for the peace of the world, and for all who suffer.

Prayer for Ukraine

Holy and Gracious God.  We pray for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia, for their countries and their leaders. We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear. We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness. We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace. We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they may be inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ. Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine. And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son. Lord, have mercy.  Amen.

New Pilgrim Path
Centering Prayer: ‘Letting Go’

Centering Prayer is a contemporary method of silent prayer, developed by the Trappist monk, Thomas Keating, which prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Listen to Rev Cynthia Bourgeault’s 30-minute introduction to the practice at www.newpilgrimpath.ie

Thought for the Week
Psalm 118:24

This is the day the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

A Grandmother’s Prayer

Dear Jesus,

I Whisper into the darkness,

I feel Your Presence near.

I have some things to share with You,

I know that You will hear.

I bring my cares before You

And I lay them at Your feet.

I ask You, please look after them.

Each grandchild, oh, so sweet.

They’re young and very precious.

They have so much to learn.

Dear Lord, please protect them.

Direct them at each turn.

And when each child is fully grown

I’ll bring them to You still.
Asking for Your blessing

And praying for Your will.

Amen.

You Can Bring Them Back For Awhile

When someone is gone, you can bring them back, for just a little while, by talking them into life.

By painting a picture with your memories and your words, breathing their essence back into existence, for just a few moments.

When someone is gone, you can see them again, for a minute or two, by being all the things they once were.

By allowing their best traits to filter through you, shaping your words, your thoughts and your deeds, back out into this world.

When someone is gone, you can feel them again, for just a moment, by playing their music, and singing their favourite songs.

By giving yourself up to the notes that brought them alive, once upon a time; it will again.

When someone is gone, you can keep a part of them alive, by giving the love you had for them a forever place in your life, a forever seat at your table and a glorious chapter in your book.  Stories never die, tell them all.

Donna Ashworth, Poem from ‘I Wish I Knew’

Take A Break and Catch Your Breath

The world is a crazy place,

I’ll agree.

But just for today,

allow yourself to take a break and catch your breath.

Marvel in the magic and wonder that exists all around.

Watch the clouds shift in the sky.

What weather do they foretell?

See the birds fly by.

Are the seasons readying for change?

Smell the air and listen to the hum of crickets.

What harvest bounty has arrived?

Find a patch of grass or dirt and stand there in your bare feet.

Can you feel the pulse of the earth?

It’s there, reminding you that it’s alive.

It has many secrets to share… that aren’t really secrets at all.  You just forgot how to listen.
