Four Seasons Collection
Thank you to all who contributed to the collection for our Church projects last weekend. The amount collected was €1,165.
Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation
Fr Peter welcomed and enrolled all the children and their parents and guardians at the 6pm vigil Mass last Saturday. It was great to see so many there. We look forward to seeing you again at the next preparation Mass which will take place on Saturday, 16th November, at 6pm.

You are invited to the Parish Centre this Sunday morning following the 9.30am Mass. Sr Maureen Brennan MMM, will give a short presentation based on her acclaimed memoir ‘From the margins to the marginalised ‘ – the story of life from her childhood to her time spent in Africa. All funds raised from the sale of the book – €10 per book – will go directly to those working in Nigeria on behalf of all the young boys and girls being taken for trafficking. Do join us on Sunday morning!

The envelopes for our November Altar List of the Dead are on the back table. We will not be delivering them this year. Envelopes can be returned to the Sacristy/Parish Office or in the box outside the sacristy.
Reflection on the Scriptures for this Sunday
‘Anyone who wants to become great among you must be your servant’
As we contemplate Jesus as the Servant King, our readings today challenge us to consider themes of service and sacrifice.
The First Reading comes from Isaiah’s fourth song of the suffering servant. Although the servant is rejected because of the message he proclaims, and will suffer because of it, his sufferings will ’justify many’.
The Psalm encourages us to look with hope to the Lord especially in challenging times. We can trust in his merciful and loving help – he is ‘our help and our shield’.
The Second Reading reminds us that we can trust in finding mercy and grace in times of trouble, because Jesus shared in our humanity. Although he remained without sin, he knows all that human nature brings, including the temptations.
The Gospel brings us full circle as Jesus speaks of the sacrifice that he, ‘the Son of Man’, will make. We see James and John approach Jesus seeking a share in his glory. He foretells the suffering that they, like him, will face, and reminds us all that, above all else, we must serve those in need.
This week we can review the ways in which we serve the needs of others. Knowing that the Lord will always hear us, we can ask for the grace and strength we need to do his will.
World Missions Sunday 20th/21st October 2024
The Holy Father makes this annual appeal to support overseas mission and missionaries. This takes place in every parish worldwide where the Church is present. In Ireland, Missio Ireland, which is the Pope’s official charity for overseas Missions, organises this collection.
This year’s theme, chosen by Pope Francis is ‘Go and invite everyone to the banquet’. Mission, he said is a tireless going out to all men and women, to invite them to encounter God.
This collection will replace the Share Collection.

Annual Mass for the Dead 2024
Our Annual Mass for the Dead for those who died since October 2023 will take place on Saturday, 2nd Nov. at 6pm. Invitation letters to all families will be posted this week. The letter invites you to bring a photograph of your loved one to be placed at a sacred space in front of the Altar for the month of November. Please put the name on the back of the photo and bring to the Sacristy/Parish Office.
I want to extend thanks and appreciation to all involved in organising last Sunday’s presentation of the Bene Merenti medal to me. It was a very special, emotional and joyful occasion, surrounded by family and friends. Many thanks to Fr Peter, Fr Séamus and Fr Cathal for celebrating the Mass. The choir lifted my heart and gave me courage when I heard them sing “God is by my side”. Being awarded this medal is an honour both for me and the Parish and I feel I represented all the wonderful people here who volunteer in so many different ways – the unsung heroes! Volunteering can be misunderstood – it is not demanding and can be a pleasant and joyful experience. Mary McDevitt
Prayer for the Month of October for the Synod
Holy God, you have made us all members of the body of Christ, the people of God, and poured into our hearts the abundant gift of your Spirit. Today, we pray earnestly for all gathered in Rome for the Synod: may your grace go with them and give to all the courage to bring faith, hope and love in abundance to meet the challenges before us.
We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
