Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Pope Francis
Francis used some of his strongest words this week in a speech to ambassadors accredited to the Holy See, calling for people to get vaccinated. Francis has termed vaccination as “an act of love” and that refusing to get inoculated was “suicidal.” On Monday he went a step further, saying that individuals had a responsibility to care for themselves “and this translates into respect for the health of those around us. Health care is a moral obligation,” he asserted.
Reflection on Today’s Gospel
In the First Reading this week, Isaiah uses the imagery of a wedding to show how the deep love of God for his people will transform our lives. ‘As the bridegroom rejoices in his bride so will your God rejoice in you’.
Another wedding scene is described in today’s Gospel. At the beginning of his public life, Jesus’s love and care transforms a wedding feast from disaster to joyous celebration by turning water into wine. Second reading – St Paul teaches the church in Corinth about how God works through the different people in the church so that they (and we) can use their gifts in a variety of ways in his service, united by the one Spirit working through them all to transform the lives of others. In what ways do we need the Lord to transform our lives this week?

My Grandparents’ Generation
They are taking so many things with them:
their sewing machines and fine china,
their ability to fold a newspaper
with one hand and swat a fly.
They are taking their rotary telephones,
and fat televisions, and knitting needles,
their cast-iron frying pans, and Tupperware.
They are packing away the picnics
and perambulators, the wagons
and church socials. They are wrapped in
lipstick and big band music, dressed
in recipes. Buried with them: bathtubs
with feet, front porches, dogs without leashes.
These are the people who raised me
and now I am left behind in a world without paper letters, a place where the phone
has grown as eager as a weed.
I am going to miss their attics,
their ordinary coffee, their chicken
fried in lard. I would give anything
to be ten again, up late with them
in that cottage by the river, buying
Marvin Gardens and passing go,
collecting two hundred dollars

St Anthony, Your Great Protector
”I am Saint Anthony, faithful companion in your time of need. I am your great protector!
“You know that whenever you have recourse to my intercession, you are taken care of!
“I have been waiting a long time for you because I know your situation, I know your needs and I know that you want to obtain help from the Lord through my intercession. “I am ready to help you! Tell me your needs, open your afflicted heart to me. I will pour a drop of heavenly balm upon you to heal all your wounds and to make your pain disappear.”

My Gift To You In Heaven
I’m sending a dove to Heaven, with a parcel on its wings
Be careful when you open it, it’s full of beautiful things.
Inside are a million kisses, wrapped up in a million hugs,
to say how much I miss you and to send you all my love. I hold you close within my heart and there you’ll remain to walk with me through my life until we meet again.
Home Alone by Paddy O’Keeffe
In Dublin’s fair city
No craic, that’s a pity
We switched on the news
Saw the curfews
It’s no life! No Life Oh!
She spread her fever
No one could stop her
She brought us our sorrows
With her tiny, spiked arrows
It’s no life! No life Oh!
No craic after eight
We can’t celebrate
Night life is dead
It’s early to bed
It’s no life! No life Oh!
Not living at all
We’re climbing the wall
Can’t go on vacation
Without a booster vaccination
It’s no life! No life Oh!
NPHET ghost of Christmas past
Say cases are growing fast
No Santa Claus
Covid is the cause
It’s no life! No life! Oh
We can’t congregate
At night when it’s late
No Copper Face Jacks
Or gathering in packs
It’s no life! No life! Oh
We’re very downcast
When we think of the past
We had Christmas cheer
Craic, singing and beer
It’s no life! No life! Oh
Thought For The Week
“Prayer is then not just a formula of words, or a series of desires springing up in the heart – it is the orientation of our whole body, mind and spirit to God in silence, attention, and adoration. All good meditative prayer is a conversion of our entire self to God.” – Thomas Merton
