Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.  Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.  I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Pope Francis – Sunday of the Word of God

Pope Francis established the Third Sunday in Ordinary time to be the Sunday of the Word of God. Pope Francis is clear that the relationship between the Risen Lord, a community of believers, and sacred Scripture is essential to who we are as Christians.

Also, this week Pope Francis said “My thoughts go out to the people of the islands of Tonga, who have been affected by the eruption of the underwater volcano. I am spiritually close to all the afflicted people, imploring God for relief for their suffering. I invite everyone to join me in praying for these brothers and sisters.”

Reflection on Today’s Gospel
‘Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life’

Today we are invited to deepen our relationship with the Lord through our devotion and dedication to reading and praying with scripture – we hear how the Spirit of the Lord revives, liberates, sustains, unites and gives life.

The Psalm celebrates God’s law of love: each line is a litany of the comfort, joy and strength that can be drawn from the Word of God.  In the Second reading Paul teaches that although the Christian community is very diverse, with different strengths and perspectives, we are all united in the Spirit of the Lord though our baptism

Jesus, filled with the spirit of the Lord, reads from the word of God and proclaims that Isaiah’s prophecy is embodied and fulfilled in him (Gospel). Jesus liberates, heals, transforms and brings good news. As followers of Jesus who are united by the living Spirit of God, this is our calling too. With our lives centred on Scripture, the living word of God, we are not alone as we pray. We belong to a living, transforming community of believers united by our baptism. Let us pray that our lives will be a testament to the liberating, healing teachings that Jesus embodied.

New Pilgrim Path Website

In the northern hemisphere, this time of year can be dark in every sense. The Jesuits in Britain have devised seven mental health audio exercises designed to encourage, in God’s presence, prayerful awareness of any feelings of unease or distress. These short exercises last just eight minutes and address addiction, aging, anxiety, depression, grief, insomnia and loneliness. It is hoped that they will be helpful for anyone who might be struggling now.

Let Your Cup Run Over With Love For Others

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.

Why did you spill the coffee?

“Well because someone bumped into me, of course!”

Wrong answer.

You spilled the coffee because there was *coffee* in your cup.  Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled *tea*.

*Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out.

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

So we have to ask ourselves… “What’s in my cup?”

When life gets tough, what spills over?

Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility?    Or anger, bitterness, harsh words, reactions?    You choose!

Today let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation, kindness, gentleness and love for others.                    ———————–

Madeleine L’Engle observes: “We do not draw people to Christ by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.”

Just Be There _ No More, No Less

It occurred to Pooh and Piglet that they hadn’t heard from Eeyore for several days, so they put on their hats and coats and trotted across the Hundred Acre Wood to Eeyore’s stick house. Inside the house was Eeyore.

“Hello Eeyore,” said Pooh.

“Hello Pooh. Hello Piglet,” said Eeyore, in a Glum Sounding Voice.

“We just thought we’d check in on you,” said Piglet, “because we hadn’t heard from you, and so we wanted to know if you were okay.”

Eeyore was silent for a moment. “Am I okay?” he asked, eventually. “Well, I don’t know, to be honest. Are any of us really okay? That’s what I ask myself. All I can tell you, Pooh and Piglet, is that right now I feel really rather Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. Which is why I haven’t bothered you. Because you wouldn’t want to waste your time hanging out with someone who is Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All, would you now.”

Pooh looked at Piglet, and Piglet looked at Pooh, and they both sat down, one on either side of Eeyore in his stick house.

Eeyore looked at them in surprise. “What are you doing?”

“We’re sitting here with you,” said Pooh, “because we are your friends. And true friends don’t care if someone is feeling Sad, or Alone, or Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. True friends are there for you anyway. And so here we are.”

“Oh,” said Eeyore. “Oh.” And the three of them sat there in silence, and while Pooh and Piglet said nothing at all; somehow, almost imperceptibly, Eeyore started to feel a very tiny little bit better.

Because Pooh and Piglet were There.

No more; no less.    A.A. Milne

It is easy in these times to see the world as evil, angry, selfish, and violent—so much hate. But those are the loud voices. The quiet voices go softly about the world doing good whenever and wherever they can. They are the Christ light in the world. Many small candles can light up the darkness.                                                 —Kathleen B.

A Lot of Walking Away Will Do Your Life Good

Walk away from arguments that lead you to anger and nowhere. Walk away from people who deliberately put you down. Walk away from the practice of pleasing people who choose to never see your worth. Walk away from any thought that undermines your peace of mind. Walk away from judgmental people, they do not know the struggle you are facing and what you have been through. All away from your mistakes and fear, they do not determine your fate. The more you walk away from things that poison your soul, the healthier your life will be.    Dodinsky –

Thought For The Week

Religion and science go together. As I’ve said before, science without religion is lame and religion without science is blind. They are interdependent and have a common goal—the search for truth.”     Albert Einstein
