Advent in our Parish
Today the pink and three purple candles are lighting on the Advent wreath – Hope, Love, Joy and Peace. The Jesse tree symbols: a sandal – John the Baptist; a saw – Joseph, a carpenter; a crown – Mary Jesus’ mother and Queen of heaven and Chi Rho – the symbol for Jesus. The focus this week is Come Lord Jesus.
Prayer for Ukraine
Holy and Gracious God, We pray for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia, for their countries and their leaders. We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear. We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness. We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace. We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they may be inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ. Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine. And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son. Lord, have mercy. Amen.
Save Your Franked Stamps for the Missions
We invite all our parishioners to collect the stamps from all post received now, place them in an envelope and put them in the relevant box inside the front door of the Church.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
A communal Penitential Service will take place at the following 10am Masses: Tuesday 20th December, Wednesday 21stDecember and Friday 23rd December. Confessions Friday 24th 10.30am-12noon and on request.

Christmas Eve, Saturday, 24th December – Vigil Mass 6pm and Mass of the Nativity 9pm. Christmas Day, Sunday, 25th December – 9.30am and 12noon. St Stephen’s Day, Monday, 26th December – Mass 10am.

Service of the Healing of the Generations

Reflection on Readings for this Sunday
Today’s readings show God asking for our love and our trust and His faithfulness to us, sending Jesus to save us. Isaiah is sent to comfort King Ahaz (First Reading), who has turned away from God. Isaiah sees through the false humility of Ahaz, but still gives him a sign: a maiden will give birth to a son, Emmanuel – ‘God-is-with-us’ In the Gospel, Joseph also faces a difficult situation, but God speaks through an angel in Joseph’s dreams, reassuring him that his son is a gift of the Holy Spirit destined to be the Saviour. Joseph follows the angel’s command, placing his whole trust in God. St Paul (Second Reading) emphasises both the human and divine aspect of Jesus, who is both a descendant of David and the Son of God. It is Jesus alone who can bring us grace and peace. As we wait in expectant hope for the Lord’s coming, let’s pray for the grace that we might listen with the ear of faith, and respond to the Lord’s call. We pray especially for peace in the world. As we welcome Jesus into our hearts, we God to help us to welcome all those whom we encounter.

Family Offering Boxes
The Boxes commence in January 2023.
They are available on the back table of our Church.
Each bag has approximately 6-8 boxes for each Road. Help with delivery is needed to make sure families receive their boxes on time for January. If you would like to contribute to the Family Offering, please contact Janice in the Parish Office 018390433.

They Said It Couldn’t Be Done
Somebody said that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one bad
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So, he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!
Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that.

Not All Children Can Be “Good”
Please don’t make Santa’s approval depend on being good. Not all kids can do it. Because being good means being normal. Being able to handle the hustle, the bustle, the changes and the rules, and not all brains are wired that way. December is a sensory and mental firecracker of a month, and many kids opt out. They are stressed, they are over-excited, they are not bad. No child would willingly anger Santa. If the bribes aren’t working, it’s because they are not in control of their brain yet. No child should ever feel worthless at Christmas. They are children. That’s the whole point.
