Letter from Fr Kieran McDermott, Chair of Diocesan Synodal Steering Committee
I write on behalf of Archbishop Farrell and the Diocesan Synodal Steering Committee, seeking your help.
The Synod on Synodality – Communion, Participation and Mission, opens in Rome on 4th October, representing the next stage in the process of listening and discerning what God wants from us, His People, in the world of today.
The Archbishop and our Committee are keen that this moment of opportunity be used to build on the considerable interest shown last year when almost 13,000 people of the Archdiocese participated in the initial stages of the Synodal process. We have been considering ways to raise consciousness of, and interest in the events in Rome and to help people to have a better understanding of what is occurring.
A letter from the Archbishop may be read at Masses on 30th September/1st October.

Reflection on Sunday’s Readings
This week’s readings call us to turn to the Lord, modelling our actions and words on Christ Jesus.
The First Reading, from the prophet Ezekiel, gives hope. Those who think better of their situation and renounce it are given life.
The Psalm is the heartfelt prayer of people turning away from sin and embracing the gift of new life.
Paul shows what it is to give up sin and take on the mind of Christ (Second Reading). The Church at Philippi was a source of joy for Paul, but he appeals for greater unity, by imitating the humility of Christ, who became obedient even to death. Out of love for us, Christ gives up his divinity, freely and without reservation.
Following the overturning of the money changers’ tables in the Temple, the religious leaders confront Jesus, demanding to know the source of his authority. Jesus tells the parable of the two sons, and poses a question, causing the chief priests to reflect on the difference between putting self or others first. By answering correctly, by aligning themselves to the boy who said he would do his Father’s will but then doesn’t, they convict themselves (Gospel).
Let us keep close to Christ, who obeyed the Father in word and deed and let us remember that it is never too late for us to turn to God and follow God’s will.
Four Seasons Quarterly Collection – THIS WEEKEND
Our Quarterly Collection for ongoing Church Projects will be on THIS WEEKEND 30th/1st October. To date we have a new heating system installed in time for the winter ahead; the guttering and Church porch apex have been repaired and painted; new cameras installed overlooking the car park and inside the Church with a CCTV recording system. The next challenge is to repair and resurface the carpark, hopefully before the end of the year. We thank you all for your continued support and donations.
Sacraments 2024
Registration is now open for any child wishing to receive the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation in our Parish in 2024. Details are on our Parish website kilbarrackfoxfieldparish.ie

Notice was given to our Parish School and Faith Formation representative.
The first preparation Mass will take place on Sunday 15th October at 12pm and we look forward to meeting with you all then.

Urgent! Our Parish Church needs you now! The cleaning group is ‘struggling’. Please come along any Monday at 11 – all welcome – both men and women. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place from 11am-3pm, Tuesday to Friday.
