Reflection on Sunday’s Readings
‘The Vineyard of the Lord is the House of Israel’
The image of the people of God as a vineyard is familiar in the Scriptures. We can rejoice in seeing the Church as the vineyard of the Lord, but we also need to respond to God’s gifts and use them well.
In Isaiah’s ‘Song of the Vineyard’, God has made the people of Israel his vineyard (First Reading). He lovingly cares for it, but sadly the people fail to respond.
The Psalm picks up the same theme. It is an appeal to God to turn again and visit the vine he has planted.
The vineyard appears in the Gospel too, but here the tenants are reproached. Not only are they not profitable, but they murder the owner’s son.
St Paul writes that the peace of God is ours if we can only trust in him (Second Reading). We are to pursue all that is good and pure and produce the fruit worthy of the Lord.
This week, may we be full of thanksgiving for all that we have received, and always turn to the Lord in prayer.
Annual Mass for the Dead 2023
Our Annual Mass for the Dead for those who died since October 2022 will be held on Saturday 4th November at 6pm. Relatives of those deceased will receive a letter in the post in the coming weeks, detailing the
ceremony.
Baptism News
Previously our Baptisms took place on Sundays. From October, Baptisms will now be held on the Second Saturday of each month.
- Baptismal Registration Forms are available from the Parish Office.
- Completed Registration Forms to be returned with your child’s Birth Certificate and the Baptismal Fee. Enquiries contact Janice in the Parish Office on 018390433.
Urgent Voluntary Sacristan Needed – St. John the Evangelist Church.
We currently have our loyal Sacristans who do a wonderful job in serving our Church. However, we need one more to complete our team. The Mass that needs cover is our Saturday 6pm Mass and also relief cover for holidays of our current Sacristans. If interested, please contact Janice or Aishling in the Parish Office.
Sacraments 2024
Registration is open for any child wishing to receive the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation in our Parish in 2024. Details are on our Parish website kilbarrackfoxfieldparish.ie
Dates for the Sacraments and the preparation Masses are on the home page of website under Sacraments.
Notice was given to our Parish School and Faith Formation representative.
The first preparation Mass will take place on Sunday 15th October at 12pm and we look forward to meeting with the children and their families then.
