Advent in our Church
‘Come Lord Jesus’ is the focus for 4th week of Advent. Our time of waiting is almost over, and we will celebrate the birth of Jesus soon. We light the candle of love this week and those of joy, peace and hope. The Jesse tree symbols are – sandal, saw, crown and Chi Rho reminding us of John the Baptist, Joseph, Mary and Jesus.
Christmas Masses
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Christmas ceremonies. As the Christmas Eve Mass is at 6pm, it might suit some parents to bring children there to see Baby Jesus placed in the crib and to join in the carol singing.
Homeless Awareness Campaign
This campaign has been running since the 1983. Belvedere students raise awareness and collect money for the homeless by sleeping on Dublin’s streets for two nights (22nd December until 24th December). This money is then divided between two charities. There are 174 students sleeping on the streets this year, with additional students sleeping in their back gardens. The students are hoping to beat last year’s total of €346,000. Please support this worthy cause. Posters with the QR code will be displayed in our Church porches which you can scan and donate, donate by copying link to browser Belvedere College SJ: Belvedere College SJ Annual Sleep-Out 2025; or directly to the students taking part in ‘sleep out’.
Happy Christmas
We extend very best wishes for a happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas to all our parishioners and their families. We keep in mind the family members who are far away and unable to travel this year and will include them in our prayers.
We send a big welcome, and Christmas wishes to all those who have joined our parish recently and to those who have come home for Christmas.
Those who were bereaved during the last year will have a special place in our thoughts and prayers during this Christmas season which is a difficult and sad time for you.
May the peace of Christ spread throughout our Parish in the year ahead.

A Reflection on Today’s Gospel
Let the earth be opened and bring forth a Saviour!
Advent is drawing to a close, and the readings reveal that the time to welcome our Saviour is drawing near.
In our First Reading Isaiah, weary of the kings of Israel, foretells that the child who is to be born of a virgin will be named ‘God with us’.
The Psalm speaks of the all-powerful God, who created the earth. St Paul (Second Reading), proclaims Jesus, descended from David in the flesh, but Son of God in the power of the Spirit and the resurrection.
We hear Isaiah’s prophecy in the Gospel. Through Joseph’s trust in God, God’s plan is fulfilled with the birth of Jesus, Son of Mary, Son of God. We rejoice in this season of hope and the coming of the Light of the World. As the Jubilee year draws to a close, we consider how, despite the often-tragic state of our world, we can still place our trust in Jesus Christ. our Saviour.
Special Christmas Wishes
As we approach Christmas, we think of our dear
Fr Séamus who is very much missed. He is on the road to recovery now from severe back trouble and we look forward to seeing him early in the New Year. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
We also think of Fr Godfrey and Fr Francis and extend very best wishes to them as they spend their first Christmas in Ireland.

“As Christmas approaches and we prepare to celebrate the miracle of Jesus’ birth, we reflect on how the Saviour of the world was once a tiny, vulnerable baby who depended on others for survival and remained vulnerable even as a man (Isaiah 53). Despite or perhaps because of His reliance on others, Jesus was called Emmanuel, God with us.

If you are feeling overwhelmed this season, please be honest about your needs and consider that our limits may be opportunities for others to give. So we can follow the example of Emmanuel, born into the world as a baby reliant on God and those who loved and cared for Him.”
The best thing you can do today is to enjoy what is already here in your life.
You have so many blessings right in front of you that are waiting to be enjoyed. A grateful heart attracts more to be grateful for.
