Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Meditation on the Synod Prayer
We stand before you, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in your name. With you along to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts.
Teach us the way we must go and how to pursue it.
Standing is a very old way of praying.
When we stand for prayer it’s the posture of a grateful heart.
When the early Christians gathered they stood together
with arms outstretched, giving thanks.
We stand because God is here, with us standing right beside us.
Gathering, this is what we are all about.
Where two or three are gathered in His name, there is Church.
The gathering is ecclesia.
We become the People of God by gathering.
Making your home in me as I make mine in yours.
How does it feel, to know what God has made his home in your heart?
When we are in touch with this sense of presence
we can easily know what is asked of us.
Listening deeply to understand the movement of the Spirit in our hearts,
Help us to know what to do.
It’s only when we have a teachable heart.
That we can really open up to the influence of the Spirit and take the Spirit’s lead.
The path, the way is to open ourselves to the influence of the Spirit,
So that the Synodal Path is truly Spirit led.
We pray that we will open our hearts and our minds
To the lead of the Spirit.

Reflection on Sunday’s Gospel
The Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, at the end of Year B, calls us to celebrate Jesus’ victory over suffering and death and our part in bringing God’s truth, love, justice and peace to the world. Foretelling the coming of Jesus, the First Reading describes Daniel’s vision of a ‘son of man’ coming on the clouds of heaven to be crowned King. In the Second Reading, Jesus is described as coming on the clouds and as ruler of the kings of the earth, and brings us ever closer to the God who is, who was, and who is to come. In the Gospel, we witness Pilate asking Jesus the question, ‘Are you the King of the Jews?’ Jesus then speaks of a kingdom in which those who seek the truth listen to his voice and follow his ways. This week, we ask God for the grace to open our hearts and minds to the needs of those who do not know his voice.

The Plumber’s Secret Tree
I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had finished a rough first day on the job: a flat tyre made him lose an hour of work, his electric drill quit and his ancient one-ton truck refused to start.
While I drove him home, he sat in silence. On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands.
When opening the door, he underwent an amazing transformation. His face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.
Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier.
‘Oh, that’s my trouble tree,’ he replied ‘I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing’s for sure, those troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning I pick them up again.’ ‘Funny thing is,’ he smiled,’ when I come out in the morning to pick ’em up, there aren’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before. – Anon.
