Happy New Year
As we begin a new year, we would like to acknowledge with thanks the many people who give so generously of their time working for our Church. It is very much appreciated.
We would like to pay special tribute to our Parish Secretary, Janice Dornan, who ‘keeps the show on the road’ in her warm, pleasant, helpful way.
We wish all our parishioners a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.

Today’s focus is on family life, with the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph taking the centre role as can be seen in the Gospel. The Gospel relates the events when Jesus was about twelve years old and stayed in the Temple while Mary and Joseph journeyed home. It shows both Jesus’ commitment to His heavenly Father, and His willingness to be obedient to Mary and Joseph.
The First reading tells of Samuel’s birth to Hannah. Hannah received the birth of Samuel as a blessing from God. In turn Hannah gives Samuel back to God .
The Second Reading, from the First Letter of John, reminds us that not only were we born into a human family, but we are also part of the family of God, which means we must love one another as Jesus has loved us. Today we pray confidently to the Lord that, all families especially those in need will receive their heart’s desires. Let us embrace the love of the Holy Family in our lives and ensure our families are places of joy, faith, and hope for all.
Prayer from Knock for the Jubilee Year 2025
Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation
of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed,
be glory and praise for ever.
Amen
The Old Year Is Done, Let It Go
We are coming to the end of another unique year. You have a couple of days left to let it all go.
Let go of worry, what will be will be. Let go of regret, what’s done is done. Let go of anger, it’s prolonging your pain. Let it all go and make way.
You can’t reach for the new, if your arms are full of yesterday’s baggage.
We can’t go back, my friends, but we can move on, lightly, without that load.
So, Let it all go, set it all down. It’s dragging you back.
And you’re not going back, You’re going forward. So go forward, with peace.
You did what you did, life gave what it gave,
and we are who we are.
March on…
Love first. ~Donna Ashworth
Shine Your Brightest Light
Now, more than ever, we need to bring the light.
Light is commonly associated with quality of life. It can be found in the twinkle of the eye, in the warmth of a smile, and even within the soul.
The light inside our hearts can breathe life into anything it touches, whether it be our thoughts, feelings, the things we do, or the people we know.
The joy of witnessing the sunrise, fireworks, stars, and candlelight all bring life into the vast darkness.
It goes to say that we cannot appreciate the light if there is no darkness, like happiness without knowing sadness.
”To shine your brightest light is to be who you truly are.”
Roy T Bennett .
Life Is Short, Be Happy
There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it.
You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad and focus on the good.
Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who do not.
Life is too short to be anything but happy.
Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living. – José N. Harris
Become Your Own Best Friend
This should be the time when you become your own best friend. Life is a lot right now. Too much. Uncertainty is a burden we must carry, waiting to be punished. So, I hope this is the year you commit to being your own ally. To learning the depths of your resilience. To saying kinder things to yourself. Being the one who cheers you on.
Life is so much easier when you have your own back. And I hope, if you commit to nothing else, you commit to yourself. That you learn to love the parts of yourself that are hard to love.
That you are the loving voice within. That you hear yourself over the noise of the world. That you know you can handle almost anything because you are who you are right now.
Commit to it. Make it a priority. The relationship you have with yourself is forever. Be your own strongest champion. Learn to accept what you have been taught not to love.
Be the soft place to land in a hard world. It is worth it.
You are worth it. Your own love is worth fighting for.
Make All the Mistakes You Can
“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.
So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.
Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.
Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”
― Neil Gaiman
Thought For The Week
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. So don’t be troubled. Don’t be afraid. – John 14:27
