Invitation to Parents/ Guardians of children eligible for Sacraments of Communion and Confirmation
There is an informal meet and greet evening next Wednesday, 11th September at 7pm in the Parish Centre for all parents and guardians who would like their children to receive either their First Holy Communion or their Confirmation next May 2025 here in St John the Evangelist Church.
We hope to see as many of you as possible at 7pm next Wednesday, 11th September.

Collections in Our Church
We thank all who donated so generously to the Lourdes collection. The amount collected was €1900.
This weekend 7th/8th Sept. Little Sisters of the Poor outdoor collection will take place after all Masses.
CROSSCARE Annual Appeal will take place on the weekend of 14th/15th September. This will replace the Share collection. More details to follow next week.

Only the following people always sign the register in the Parish office: Priests of the Parish and visiting Priests, Sacristans, Deacons, and the Parish Secretary.

Gaelscoil Míde Fundraiser
The Gaelscoil is kindly running a no uniform and no homework day this Monday 9th September. All proceeds will be donated to the Church for the resurfacing of our car park. We thank them in advance.

Reflection on the Scriptures for this Sunday
This week’s readings invite us to celebrate our ‘unbounded admiration’ (Gospel) for the Lord who ‘keeps faith with us for ever’ (Psalm).
Isaiah (First Reading) has an unshakeable faith in the trustworthiness of God. Such faith allows him to see a future where God’s transforming action will enable the world to evolve to its fruition.
There is a fulfilment of Isaiah’s promise in the Gospel, where Jesus not only heals the deaf man with a speech impediment, but also opens the ears of many to faith, and loosens tongues to spread the Good News.
In the Second Reading, St James tells the young Christian community very clearly that this Good News means God has no partiality according to class or wealth: we are all equally his children. So, when Jesus reaches out to the poor and to those on the margins of community life, he brings into focus the kind of world that God desires and continues to long for.
The Psalmist’s hymn of praise speaks particularly of the Lord’s concern for the poor, the marginalised, and those regarded as outsiders.
We pray to be open to God’s love – the God who wants to work in and through us, healing and transforming us individually, as communities, and in our institutions.

Pope Francis this Week
“Never resign to the idea that war can solve problems and lead to peace,” because war is always “a shameful surrender to the forces of evil” and only brings “death and destruction.” Pope Francis offered this powerful reminder to 500 Italian youths meeting on the Amalfi Coast, to share how to be “Instruments of peace” in today’s world.
Pathways – Adult Faith Formation
Pathways is an Adult Faith formation programme run by the Archdiocese aimed at all adults – (highly recommended parishioners who participated). It is a 2-year course, Thursday evenings, 7pm–9.30pm, September to May in DCU, Drumcondra. email peter.siney @dublindiocese.ie.

She Is Strong Who Knows Her Worth
She is strong. Not because of how much she can lift but for how she lifts others up when they’re at their lowest. Not because she is capable of withstanding the storm but because she’ll navigate the storm and then show you how to do the same.
