Dublin Diocese Pilgrimage to Lourdes 5th – 10th Sept. 24
This year the cost of bringing a sick pilgrim estimates around €1200 of which €605 is paid by the Association. Each pilgrim is asked to contribute €595 (if affordable) – no sick pilgrim is ever refused because of inability to pay. To help the Association’s contribution, each parish is asked to hold a Church gate collection. All proceeds go to reducing the cost of the pilgrimage. We will be having our Parish Collection later in the year, possibly in August. Further details to follow. See our notice boards for details.

Reflection on the Scriptures for this Sunday
With the Lord there is mercy
The readings this week reflect on our severing ourselves from the love of God through our sins, and on the mercy and forgiveness that is always available to us when we turn to the Lord.
In the First Reading, we see Adam and Eve wilfully disobeying God and refusing to acknowledge their error – blaming each other separates them from God.
The Psalm tells of a contrite person longing and waiting for the Lord’s mercy and forgiveness. St Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, tells them that the raising of the Lord Jesus will in turn also raise us believers, so that we can be united with God and live close to him. (Second Reading)
The Gospel shows us a Jesus pressed by the crowds and relatives, who do not understand what he is about. Doing the will of God will make us part of his family.
This week, we pray for those who do not fully appreciate the mercy and forgiveness the Lord is offering. We also pray for all those, who for whatever reason, do not seek to do the will of God.

New Pilgrim Path Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

The Launch of the Summer Dues takes place from next weekend. Envelopes are available on the back table of our Church or from the Parish Office.
Charity Tax Refund 2022
We posted out the Charity Tax Refund CHY Forms for the 2022 claims. These forms need to be updated every 5 years. Our Parish Secretary, Janice, will submit the claim during the summer for the 2022 refund. We would encourage parishioners to return their forms to Janice in the Parish Office. If you wish to be removed from the list, call Janice on 01 839 0433.
Please note that this Charity Scheme in no way affects your own personal taxes with Revenue. It only allows our Church to get a refund on contributions made over €250 in one tax year. We need your permission to make this claim which is why we post the CHY forms to
you for signing. We urge everyone who qualifies to take part. We can claim up to 45% on donations over €250. This is a vital income for our own Church of St John the Evangelist. ALL REFUNDS STAY IN THE PARISH FUNDS. Please feel free to call into the Parish Office if you have any questions about the Charity Tax Scheme. We will be happy to explain it in more detail.

‘In Your Garden’
In your garden you forget about that unkind thing that someone said.
When you are busy pulling weeds out of the border bed, you forget the petty things that set your nerves on edge.
When you’re turning up the soil or clipping the hedge, you forget the unfair way that someone treated you.
When you get out in the garden for an hour or two, it is strange how quickly you forget your wants and woes. When you’re planting seedlings out or tying up a rose, you forget the cares that make you feel like you’re growing old.
When you see the green new shoots come pushing through, troubles that looked big indoors will suddenly seem small. When you’re working in the garden, you tend to forget them all.
For a Happy Life
Make sure one of the paths in your life leads to the beach, the forest and on some days a table full of cake and chocolate.
Walk barefoot whenever you can.
Learn to love your alone time.
Always let your heart hope and dream and love.
Be honest with yourself.
Turn the page you are stuck on. Expand the story.
Make enjoyment important in your life.
See your age as a gift, and not as a curse.
Start Living for Today
I know your heart is broken.
