The Building Hope Prayer
Pilgrim God, we give you thanks and praise. You constantly journey with us even in our darkness and doubts. We seek your way of loving kindness to walk together as one family.
Open our eyes to recognise you in the faces of one another, in the breaking of bread and in the splendour of creation. May the risen Christ sow seeds of hope and new life deep within us. May our hearts and minds be filled with your Word, bringing forth truth, justice and peace. May the Holy Spirit working in and through us do much more than we can dare to imagine as we live out our baptismal calling in humble and loving service. Mission Sunday
Mission Sunday Annual Collection takes place at all Masses this weekend.
This will replace the Share Collection.
All offerings made on behalf of World Mission Sunday become part of the Holy Father’s Universal Solidarity Fund. This fund supports missionary activities in over 1,100 young dioceses, mostly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. As young dioceses grow, so do their needs. On top of this, they are often found in remote areas devastated by conflict or natural disasters. The Universal Solidarity Fund provides aid so that missionaries can continue to go to these places to share the love of God.
Reflection on Readings for this Sunday
Honesty and humility seem to go hand in hand, and this week we see how essential these attitudes are to our prayer. In our First Reading we learn that God listens with special care to the humble. In his justice, he is no respecter of ‘personages’: those of undue importance or elevated status. In the (Second Reading) St Paul knows the Lord is at his side and gives him power to proclaim the message. Paul is full of thanksgiving for God’s continuous care. Our Gospel is the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. The Pharisee is full of self-righteousness, but the humble tax collector, who acknowledges his sinfulness, goes home ‘at rights with God’. This week, may we be confident – as we come to prayer in all our sinfulness – knowing that the Lord, in his mercy, will always hear us. We continue to pray for the peace of the world, and for all who suffer.
Prayer for Ukraine
Holy and Gracious God. We pray for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia, for their countries and their leaders. We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear. We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness. We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace. We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they may be inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ. Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine. And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son. Lord, have mercy. Amen.

Invitation for Cuppa in our Parish Centre
Following on from a huge number of enquiries, the good news is that our popular Wednesday morning ‘cuppa’ returns this week from 10.30am. This is a great social outlet for many people. Come along on 26th October to see for yourself. Volunteers are also needed to arrange the tables in advance and to ‘put the kettle on’ – not a huge commitment as a rota system will be in place. Pope Francis This Week
The best medicine for a weary soul is prayer, Pope Francis said with a reminder that like many medical treatments, consistency is key.
“We often focus on so many urgent but unnecessary things. We occupy and preoccupy ourselves with so many secondary realities. And perhaps without even recognizing it, we neglect what counts the most and we allow our love for God to grow cold, to grow cold bit by bit. Today, Jesus offers us the remedy to rekindle a tepid faith. And what is the remedy? Prayer. Yes, prayer is the medicine for faith, it is the restorative of the soul.”

Some Days Will Be Harder Than Others
Be patient with yourself; you have won many battles but the war will take time. You can be seventeen or seventy-eight and still make mistakes. Try not to punish yourself too much over them.
