Adsumus Sancte Spiritus
We stand before You., Holy Spirit,
as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us,
make Yourself at home in our hearts.
Teach us the way we must go
and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful;
do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path,
nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity
so that we may journey together to eternal life
and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You.
who are at work in every place and time,
in the communion of the Father and the Son,

Reflection on Sunday’s Readings
| Today’s readings concentrate on God as ruler over the
world. We read about God’s relationship with Cyrus in the First Reading, a most powerful earthly ruler. Even though Cyrus did not know God, God works through him, giving him all that he needs to help accomplish God’s plans. In the Second Reading, St Paul gives thanks to God and prays for the Christian community in Thessalonica. Chosen and loved by God, the community – aided by the power of the Holy Spirit, and strengthened by its faith and hope in God – continues in its work. The Gospel message is that we belong completely to God and so, are called to offer God our entire selves. Jesus knows that the Pharisees and Herodians are trying to trip him up when they ask if Jewish people should pay taxes to the Romans. Although he confirms that this is reasonable, at the same time he also affirms that our first duty is to serve God, and to give God what is due. This week, we pray for the rulers and leaders of our world, particularly in these difficult times and ask that God will work through them towards justice and peace. We pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us in how to serve God best. |
World Mission Sunday
is set aside for the Catholic Church throughout the world to publicly renew its commitment to the missionary movement. It was created by Pope Pius XI in 1926 as the day of prayer for missions.[.
The Annual Collection will take place THIS WEEKEND 21st/22nd October. This will replace the Share Collection. Your support is appreciated.
Annual Mass for the Dead 2023
Our Annual Mass for the Dead for those who died since October 2022 will be held on Saturday 4th November at 6pm. The sacristy will be open each morning until 11am for you to bring your loved one’s photo for the ceremony on the 4th November.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place from 11am-3pm, Tuesday to Friday.

New Pilgrim Path, Life, Death and Neighbours
Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, gave six inspiring talks on modern Christian meditation, drawing on the spiritual teaching of Benedictine monk, Dom John Main. In these talks he reflects on the wisdom of the Fathers and Mothers of the Egyptian Desert in the fourth century, and he reflects on questions that deeply touch our lives. How do we live in relationship with others? How do we discover the truth about ourselves? The first talk is about our relationship with our neighbour – a recurrent theme of the liturgy recently. Altar List of the Dead
The envelopes for our November Altar List of the Dead are on the back table. We ask parishioners to deliver a bundle on their road to help ease the burden of our two ‘regulars’ Aubrey and Jim who usually deliver over 1800 envelopes. Each bundle contains 20 envelopes or less which would take 5 to 10 minutes of your time on your own road. Your help is appreciated.
