We remember in our Prayers Marie Pullen, RIP, late of Roselgen Road and William Kiernan, RIP, late of Thornville Avenue. Our thoughts and prayers are with their, friends and neighbours.  May they rest in peace.

We encourage all to pray as set out below –

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.  Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.  I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Webcam in the Church

We ask that people in the Church be aware that the webcam is on at all times and also the sound during and for a while after all Masses.

Feast Days this Week

We celebrate the beginning of Spring with some lovely Feasts. Monday 1st is the Feast of our much loved St Brigid – Gabhaim molta Bríghde. Ionmhain í le hÉirinn. Ionmhain le gach tír í. Molaimís go léir í! See various videos online re making a Brigid’s cross – children love this! If no reeds available, straws can  be used.

Tuesday 2nd is Candlemas Day, fortieth day after Christmas when Joseph and Mary presented Jesus in the temple. Candles are blessed at Mass and traditionally people brought them home to be used for sacred occasions e.g. Sacrament of the Sick. Wednesday 3rd is the Feast of St Blaise who was reputed to heal many people with diseases of the throat– so again traditionally, we had our throats blessed. Unfortunately this cannot happen this year, but maybe we can use candles at home and join during Mass with the Priest on the webcam. We can make the sign of the cross at the throat with or without a candle (sprinkled with holy water} and say –  Through the intercession of St Blaise may God deliver us from all ailments of the throat and from every other evil. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Reflection on Today’s Gospel

Listen to his Voice!

During these winter days, we may be comforted by the psalm telling us to listen to the Lord’s voice and not to grumble as the Israelites did at Massah and Meribah. In the Gospel,  Jesus teaches the people with authority, making a deep impression on his audience. Even unclean spirits obey him. We pray for all those who find it difficult to listen to God’s voice, especially if God chooses to speak through those we meet. We trust that He will help us to avoid distractions to listen to Him.

St Brigid Cures for Us

Today (Sunday) is the eve of St Brigid’s Eve. Many people in Ireland in the past would leave a cloth or a scarf outside on the eve of the Feast, to be blessed by the Saint as she passed. Known as “Bratóg Bhríde’ (Brigid’s cloak, blanket, flag, rag.) in Irish folklore, this special garment was then used as a cure for headaches or sore throats.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place from 11am-3pm, Tuesday to Friday each week.

Poem of the Week

Cana

Why would God stoop so low

To a simple creature down below?

Why would God His plans to change

For more wine to arrange?

Why would God want to party

Have some fun, be hail and hearty?

Why would God obey a creature

To start His ministry premature?

She said to Him “they have no wine

Can you make more moonshine?”

“Woman please! It’s not My time

But You, dear Mother I can’t decline.”

He changed His plans for His creation

For the wedding feast’s continuation.

Because His Mother asks Him to

He’ll also change His plans for you.

Why would God stoop so low

To a creature down below?

Mary, a creature, not Divine

Her requests He’ll not decline.

His Mother He will obey,

To His Heart She is the way.

A simple request for more wine

She is our Mother and frontline.

What does Cana say to us?

Mother, we are “Totus Tuus”.

If we are to have new wine,

On Her Heart we must recline.

Fill Our Cups With Love

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.

Why did you spill the coffee?

Because someone bumped into me!!!’

Wrong answer.

You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.

Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.

Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

So we have to ask ourselves. . .  ‘What’s in my cup?’

When life gets tough, what spills over?

Joy, gratefulness, peace, and humility?

Anger, bitterness, harsh words, and reactions?

Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it.

Today let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.

Thought for the Week

When you find yourself being less offended and more loving toward people you will realise that the love of Jesus has taken hold.
