Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Weekly Reflection on the Scriptures
Contact Sr Phyllis at 086-890-9488 with your email address and join us on Zoom any Monday night 7.30-8.30pm to reflect on the liturgy for the following Sunday. It is so rewarding and enhances participation at Mass on the day.
Reflection on Today’s Gospel
He heals the broken-hearted, He binds up all their wounds. The Gospel describes the early days of Jesus’ ministry in Galilee. After praying with the synagogue community, Jesus responds to the needs of human suffering. He heals and brings comfort to the sick and struggling. We see how important prayer is to Jesus and how he reaches out to as many people as possible, rather than with one community. This week, let us pray for the grace to respond with wisdom and compassion to the suffering and needy of our time. May prayer be at the centre of our lives as we seek the Lord.
Raheny Rotary Branch Fund-Raising Webinar
Gloria Barnett, renowned ocean adventurer, film maker, and scientist, will speak online tomorrow, 8th February at 8pm, on “The Importance of the Oceans” as a fundraiser. Excerpt from Archbishop Dermot Farrell’s Homily
“The mission of the Church, the work of God, is not just
the responsibility of a group of professionals; it is the call and responsibility of every baptised person whose active participation in the mission of the Church is indispensable and necessary, so the active participation of the laity becomes essential. They are the vast majority of the people of God. ‘The Church would seem foolish without them.’
“Leadership in the Church is not about telling people what to do; but it is about promoting co-responsibility and overcoming the mindset which runs the risk of relegating the baptised to a subordinate role, effectively keeping them on the edges of Church life. That is what we mean by a synodal Church—a church on the way with each other. The very first place this is expressed is at parish level. If it doesn’t happen in the parish, it will not happen at all!
“The only viable pastoral plan for the future will come from a genuine dialogue and discernment between the people, clergy and religious. That will involve working together in new ways, and getting to know each other anew – not to forget the past, especially the painful past where so many were hurt because our Church lost its hunger for the Kingdom and its justice. We must never again put what we consider the needs of the Church before the needs of the little ones.
“But the future is God’s gift to us. . . We come to new places, we meet new people, and we are changed, re enriched. We live in new ways. There is no pre-packaged plan to address the reality in which we find ourselves. There is a direction; there are way markers, we know them well: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (see Gal 5:22–23). They call us to build, or to re-build parishes marked by welcome, openness, forgiveness, resilience, and courage.”

She carried the Word into the Temple
To Simeon and Anna, two elderly people.
In Her arms She cradled Her Son
God as a baby is beyond comprehension.
They waited in trust year after year
For the promised Messiah to appear.
Their hearts were filled with peace and joy
When Mary presented Her baby boy.
In Her arms she carries the Light and our hope
To dispel the darkness in which we grope.
She gives birth to Him in every age

Simeon and Anna waited in anticipation
Persevered in prayer with determination.
They prayed in the Temple and many years passed by
And Mary with Child brought them great joy.

Be The Light
As the world fights to figure this all out, I’ll be holding doors for strangers, letting people cut in front of me in traffic, saying good morning, keeping babies entertained in grocery lines, stopping to talk to someone who is lonely, tipping generously, calling you by the name on your tag, waving at gardai, sharing food, giving children a thumbs-up, being patient with sales assistants and smiling at passers-by as often as I am provided the opportunity, buying a total stranger a cup of coffee.
Because? I will not stand idly by and live in a world where unconditional love is invisible.
Join me in showing love, judging less. Find your own way to swing the pendulum in the direction of love.
Be kind to a stranger today and every day. It just may be a friend you have never met. Pay it forward for any kindness shown to you in the past.
Be the change!
