The Building Hope Prayer
Pilgrim God, we give you thanks and praise. You constantly journey with us even in our darkness and doubts. We seek your way of loving kindness to walk together as one family.
Open our eyes to recognise you in the faces of one another, in the breaking of bread and in the splendour of creation. May the risen Christ sow seeds of hope and new life deep within us. May our hearts and minds be filled with your Word, bringing forth truth, justice and peace. May the Holy Spirit working in and through us do much more than we can dare to imagine as we live out our baptismal calling in humble and loving service. We make this our prayer through Christ Our Lord. Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. St Laurence O’Toole, pray for us. St Kevin, pray for us. St Brigid, pray for us.
Idea for Families during Advent from the Diocese
‘Be Still’. We are suggesting that as the family gathers for the main meal in the day that all take one minute of quiet as a time of calm. A little bell or a sand timer can be used to announce the beginning and end of the period. What about putting all phones into a basket outside the room?
Advent in our Parish
The liturgy for this season is rich in symbolism. The symbol is Awake for the First Sunday. The Advent Wreath will be blessed. The wreath consists of evergreen branches, representing everlasting life and God’s everlasting love for us, with candles representing the light of Christ – the circle is a sign of God being without beginning or end. This week we light the purple candle of hope. The symbols of the apple, ark and shepherd’s crook on the Jesse tree remind us of the ancestry of Jesus.
Reflection on Readings for this Sunday
Our attitude at this beautiful time is one of watching and waiting, and the graces to pray for are joy and hope. Our weary world is in so much need of this spirit, and of the light and peace of the coming Christ. The First Reading from Isaiah looks forward to the time when the world will be gathered together in the peace of God’s kingdom. The Second Reading is a reminder to ‘wake up’, for salvation is near and to live in the light. Jesus tells us in the Gospel to stay awake – we must not be so engrossed in our daily lives that we are unprepared when the Lord comes. Let us renew our spirit of joyful hope as we place the needs of our world before Jesus as we prepare for his coming.

As we prepare to celebrate Christmas we open our hearts again to Jesus Christ, God-with-us, a light for all the world to see. Even in the darkest and loneliest of places he brings salvation. His message of justice, peace and love sets us out again on a journey, this year and every year, focused on love of God and love of neighbour. ‘Let us walk in the light of the Lord’ (Isaiah 2:5), ‘that he may teach us his ways so that we may walk in his paths’ (Isaiah 2:3). Let
us turn our hearts towards Christ, who is the light that will show us the way forward, a light for our footsteps into the future God is preparing with us.
Prayer for Ukraine
Holy and Gracious God, We pray for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia, for their countries and their leaders. We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear. We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness. We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace. We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they may be inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ. Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine. And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son. Lord, have mercy. Amen.
Service of Healing of the Generations
A Service of Healing of the Generations takes place today Sunday, 27th November, in our Church at 7pm with Mass and concludes at 8pm. It will be led by Fr Cathal and team.
Confirmation 2023
Today at 12 noon we welcome the Confirmation children from Scoil Eoin and Northbay and their families to their first Parish Preparation Mass for the sacrament in May 2023. Please keep them in your prayers as they join with us for the next few months of the programme.

News from Kilbarrack/Foxfield Community Association
In association with DCC Environmental & Biodiversity Officers, some leaf composting cages were installed in the parish – Foxfield Green, Briarfield Grove, Thornville Park, Scoil Eoin, Abacas. More will be
installed at back of our Church and elsewhere. Bags are available and people are asked to fill bags with LEAVES ONLY and empty them into the leaf cages. Essential to note that grass, hedge cuttings, plastics, cans etc are not to be included. Volunteers needed. Thanks to Pink Ladies, Madeleine, Rita and Martina. BREG.

Christmas Is A Feeling . . .
Money is a worry this year. So please don’t fall into the trap of believing December must be all matching pyjamas, expensive soirées, perfect festive tableware and gifts galore. I believe Christmas is a feeling, not a season. An open door to a house full of love, is far more wonderful than an over-stretched host, frayed at the edges with worry, exhaustion and overwhelm. Keep your gifts simple, thoughtful and kind. Buy from small businesses where you can. Pop one much-needed item into the food-bank collections as you shop. That circle of goodwill is important right now. It will come back to you, I promise. We can ride this wave the old-fashioned way, together, with kindness. I Asked Her If She Was Okay
