The Building Hope Prayer
Pilgrim God, we give you thanks and praise. You constantly journey with us even in our darkness and doubts. We seek your way of loving kindness to walk together as one family.
Open our eyes to recognise you in the faces of one another, in the breaking of bread and in the splendour of creation. May the risen Christ sow seeds of hope and new life deep within us. May our hearts and minds be filled with your Word, bringing forth truth, justice and peace. May the Holy Spirit working in and through us do much more than we can dare to imagine as we live out our baptismal calling in humble and loving service. We make this our prayer through Christ Our Lord. Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. St Laurence O’Toole, pray for us. St Kevin, pray for us. St Brigid, pray for us.

Reflection on Readings for this Sunday
This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. As the United Kingdom prepares to crown a new King, we pray to learn what being ‘King’ means for Jesus. We may be surprised! The First Reading describes the anointing of David as King of Israel. His people describe him as ‘one of us’, a person who has led and shepherded them. The Gospel describes the reactions of people to the crucifixion of Jesus. We witness the humility of the thief who recognises his poverty and wrongdoing, and quietly asks Jesus to remember him. St Paul speaks of the grace and joy that has come to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Christ, we gain our freedom through the forgiveness of our sin (Second Reading).
Today I pray to know from the depths of my heart that I am a loved and forgiven sinner, welcomed by God into the light of his glory and joy. We continue to pray for the peace of the world, and for all who suffer.
Prayer for Ukraine
Holy and Gracious God. We pray for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia, for their countries and their leaders. We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear. We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness. We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace. We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they may be inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ. Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine. And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son. Lord, have mercy. Amen.
Service of Healing of the Generations (Family Tree)
A Service of Healing of the Generations takes place next Sunday, 27th November, in our Church at 7pm with Mass and concludes at 8pm. It will be led by Fr Cathal and team.
First Communion 2023
Today we welcome the First Communicants from Scoil Eoin and Northbay and their families to their first Parish Preparation Mass for the sacrament in May 2023. Please keep them in your prayers as they join with us for the next few months of the programme.

News from Kilbarrack/Foxfield Community Association
- In association with DCC Environmental & Biodiversity Officers, some leaf composting cages have been installed in the parish – Foxfield Green, Briarfield Grove, Thornville Park, Scoil Eoin, Abacas and more will be installed at back of our Church and elsewhere. Bags are available and people are asked to fill bags with LEAVES ONLY and empty them into the leaf cages. Essential to note that grass, hedge cuttings, plastics, cans etc are not to be included. Volunteers needed. Thanks to Pink Ladies, Madeleine, Rita and Martina. BREG.
- The lighting of the Christmas Tree at Centra Shopping Centra, in association with McHughs Centra will be on 26th November. We encourage as many parishioners as possible to attend from 5pm with entertainment, light refreshments in Perfect Day etc. Christmas items in aid of St Francis Hospice will be for sale and we hope to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause. To The Moon And Back Is About Right
Every day, the heart creates enough energy to drive a truck 20 miles. In a lifetime, that is equivalent to driving to the moon and back. So, when you tell someone you love them ‘to the moon and back’, you are essentially saying you will love them with all the blood your heart pumps your whole life. Which I think is equally as meaningful.
Cheque It Out
Two old ladies Dolly and Ruby were talking about their grandchildren.
Dolly said, “Each year I send each of my grandchildren a card with a generous cheque inside. I never hear from them… never receive a thank you message.”
Ruby replies, “I too send my grandchildren a very generous cheque. I hear from them within a week after they receive it. In fact, they each pay me a personal visit.”
“Wow! How come?” remarked Dolly.
“Very simple solution… I don’t sign the cheque!”
Pain Comes From Being Caught In A Trap
Imagine you are walking in the woods and you see a small dog sitting by a tree. As you approach it, it suddenly lunges at you, teeth bared. You are frightened and angry. But then you notice that one of its legs is caught in a trap. Immediately your mood shifts from anger to concern: You see that the dog’s aggression is coming from a place of vulnerability and pain. This applies to all of us. When we behave in hurtful ways, it is because we are caught in some kind of trap. The more we look through the eyes of wisdom at ourselves and one another, the more we cultivate a compassionate heart.
