The Building Hope Prayer
Pilgrim God, we give you thanks and praise. You constantly journey with us even in our darkness and doubts. We seek your way of loving kindness to walk together as one family.
Open our eyes to recognise you in the faces of one another, in the breaking of bread and in the splendour of creation. May the risen Christ sow seeds of hope and new life deep within us. May our hearts and minds be filled with your Word, bringing forth truth, justice and peace. May the Holy Spirit working in and through us do much more than we can dare to imagine as we live out our baptismal calling in humble and loving service. Reflection on Readings for this Sunday
The end of the Church’s year is near, and today’s readings give a message of hope for all who stay faithful to God’s love. Malachi (First Reading) uses stark imagery to show the fate of those who do not respect the Lord – those who remain faithful to Him will see a time of joy and healing. In the Gospel, Jesus predicts the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, but tells us not to fear wars, persecution, and natural disasters, which may seem like the end. In fact, they are not: he cautions us not to be deceived by those claiming that ‘the time has come’. Even in difficulty, we are not to worry about what to say: the Spirit of Jesus will give us words and wisdom, as we bear witness to Christ. By staying secure in the love that God has for us, we will be held safe. Paul (Second Reading) stresses the importance of the whole community working for the good of all, rather than thinking about the future. This week, we pray for trust and inner strength, keeping Christ at our side, and responding to him in every moment of daily life. We also continue to pray for the peace of the world.

Prayer for Ukraine
Holy and Gracious God. We pray for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia, for their countries and their leaders. We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear. We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness. We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace. We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they may be inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ. Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine. And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son. Lord, have mercy. Amen.

Energy Crisis
We ask that all those attending the Church at any time from now on, would make sure that warm clothes are worn for your own comfort and to help the Parish deal with the rising energy costs, while keeping people as comfortable as possible. What do you do with memoriam cards? Here’s an idea. When you gather to eat, place a card in a glass and light a candle in front of it. Suggested prayer –
God of hope. May your eternal light and peace shine on our friends today. We remember them with us at this table. May they enjoy the banquet of love prepared for them. Amen.
I Worried a Lot
I worried a lot. Will the garden grow, will the rivers flow in the right direction, will the earth turn as it was taught, and if not, how shall I correct it?
Was I right, was I wrong, will I be forgiven, can I do better?
Will I ever be able to sing, even the sparrows can do it and I am, well, hopeless.
Is my eyesight fading or am I just imagining it, am I going to get rheumatism, lockjaw, dementia?
Finally, I saw that worrying had come to nothing. And I gave it up. And took my old body and went out into the morning and sang.

My Lord God,

Worried About Forgetfulness? Don’t!
French Professor Bruno Dubois, Director of the Institute of Memory and Alzheimer’s Disease at Pitié-Salpêtrière
Paris Hospital, addresses the subject in a reassuring way.
“If anyone is aware of their memory problems, they do not have Alzheimer’s”.
It often happens in people 60 years and older who have some symptoms due to age rather than disease. The most common cases are:
- forgetting the name of a person,
- going to a room in the house and not remembering why they were going there,
- a blank memory for a movie title or actor,
- searching for our glasses or keys.
Many people are concerned about these oversights, hence the importance of the following statements:
“Those who are conscious of being forgetful have no serious problem of memory.”
“Those who suffer from a memory illness or Alzheimer’s are not aware of what is happening. The more we complain about memory loss, the less likely we are to suffer from memory sickness,” the Professor says.
