Reflection on Sunday’s Readings
The liturgy of Transfiguration Sunday gives us a foretaste of future glory.
In the Gospel, the account of the Transfiguration occurs as Jesus is about to make his final journey to Jerusalem and to the Cross. His imminent tragedy is seen through a vision of the glory that is to come.
For us, who carry our own tragedies and crosses, there is help in these readings. They hint at our own glory as God’s adopted children, redeemed and sanctified.
We, too, will be led into his presence and offered a share in his glory (First Reading).
The gift’s promise is, for us as it was for Peter, ‘a lamp for lighting the way through the dark until the dawn comes’ (Second Reading).
This week let’s pray that, despite our own personal struggles and the darkness of the world’s news, we might hold onto the hope of the glory that is ours through a share in Christ’s everlasting life.
Dublin Diocese Annual Lourdes Pilgrimage Collection
Next weekend 12th/13th August, there will be an outdoor collection after all Masses to assist with the costs of bringing sick pilgrims as part of this pilgrimage in September. This is a very worthy cause, and your contributions will be very much appreciated.

Grief Will Become My Home
I’m scared that grief will become my home. So, I force myself to get out of bed, get out of my head, get out of my pyjamas and out of my room. Grief has become so familiar that I am scared it is now part of my identity, woven into my skin forever intertwined. So, I force myself to smile, to remember how to laugh. To take a walk outside and remember that there is life outside of my house even if I have tried to forget that. Grief has made me comfortably numb and I am scared I will never feel again. So, I force myself to watch romantic movies and listen to music with lyrics that move me, hoping my heart will recall feeling.
I am scared that grief will become my home. So, I am going to force myself to move.

Change As You Go
In order to make a relationship last, you really have to flow with a person as they change. Give them space. My friend always told me about his grandfather who was with his wife for 60 years before she passed. His grandfather said that through all that time, his wife changed so much it felt like he had been with eight different people by the end. But he said the secret to making it last was that through all these changes, he never suffocated his wife with his own idea of who he expected her to be. Rather he loved, fully, every new woman she became. – Unknown.
