Christian Art: Inspiring Daily Reflections

Dublin Diocese Annual Lourdes Pilgrimage Collection
This weekend 12th/13th August, there will be an outdoor collection after all Masses to assist with the costs of bringing sick pilgrims as part of this pilgrimage in September. This is a very worthy cause, and your contributions will be very much appreciated. You may also like to put your name on the blue sheet on the back table which will be added to the Diocesan list and Mass celebrated – ‘at the grotto’ for all your intentions.
Reflection on Sunday’s Readings
A voice that speaks of peace
Our Sunday readings this week reiterate the need to listen to God’s voice in all the circumstances of our lives, especially in times of trial. In the First Reading, God appears to a despondent Elijah in the voice of a gentle breeze, and the prophet gains courage to face his mission. (Gospel) -The disciples are disheartened and slow to recognize the Lord in the storm. They worship him as he reaches out to save them. (Second Reading) – St Paul is sad that the Jewish people have not recognized Jesus. He is willing to put his own salvation on the line to help his people. May we remind ourselves that Christ, our peace, is always with us, amidst the storms and difficulties of our lives.
Pope Francis this Week
In Lisbon Pope Francis challenged university students to make the world a more just and inclusive place, as he focused on inspiring young people to use their privilege to combat global warming and economic inequalities. “An academic degree should not be seen merely as a licence to pursue personal well-being, but as a mandate to work for a more just, inclusive, truly progressive society.”
Pope Francis also speaks about today’s Gospel – it is an invitation to abandon ourselves trustingly to God in every moment of our life, especially in the moment of trial and turmoil. We must not be ashamed to cry out like Peter: “Lord, save me” (v. 30). To knock on God’s heart, on Jesus’s heart. “Lord, save me.” Having faith means keeping your heart turned to God, to His love, to His Fatherly tenderness, amid the storm.

Diocesan Youth Leadership Course
A new Diocesan Youth Leadership Course will take place in September which will equip young adults to take on leadership roles in their parish; peer-to-peer ministry, and training those looking to accompany young adults in their parish. Come to Pathways: Exploring Faith and Ministry
If you want to know and live your faith better – this is the course for you. The programme, run by the Dublin Archdiocese, a two-year, one evening a week course for adults, begins this year in DCU St Patrick’s Campus, Upper Drumcondra Road, on Thursday, 28th September,7pm–9.30pm – no exams or written work. Only requirement – openness to listening to others and to participate. The cost is €400 for the coming year which may be paid in instalments.
