New Pilgrim Path – The Greatest Sin is the Unlived Life

The late, great Irish poet, author and philosopher, John O’Donohue, wrote that “the greatest sin is the unlived life”. Listen to John in a compelling recording at: www.newpilgrimpath.ie, on ‘Imagination as the Path of Spirit’, where he urges us to “enter fully into our lives, becoming all that we are capable of becoming, so that we can look back on a life that took honourable risks; pushed its own frontiers; tried to look after its own healing; was compassionate; didn’t judge; tried to look after the poor and neglected and the unspoken for.”

Recently Deceased

We remember in our Prayers

Mary (Marie) Rankin, RIP, late of Clontarf and formerly of Duleek and Foxfield Crescent and

Thomas O’Shea, RIP, late of Briarfield Grove.

Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, and neighbours.

May they rest in peace.  Amen.

Reflection on Sunday’s Reading

We are his people, the sheep of his flock.’

St Paul writes to the Christians in Rome, teaching that their concerns should not, ultimately, be about what they are doing for God, but about what God has done, and is doing, for them. (Second Reading) That is also a sentiment echoed in this week’s Psalm – we, the sheep, are beneficiaries of a Good Shepherd who made us, who loves us, who is faithful to us, and to whom we belong.

St Matthew (Gospel) shows Jesus as the compassionate shepherd of his suffering people. Jesus is concerned not only with their spiritual and practical needs, but also about ensuring there are enough ‘labourers’ on the ground to reach every ‘lost sheep.’

This week, we might ponder: are there tempting alternatives getting in the way of my relationship with the Lord? What has God done for me …. is God doing for me … will God do for me? How is my relationship with the Good Shepherd, to whom I belong? In what ways am I able to work alongside Christ in today’s world?

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place from 11am-3pm, Tuesday to Friday.

Prayer for Students doing Exams

Lord, pour out your Spirit of Wisdom on these students: help them to remain calm, to attend carefully to the questions asked, to think clearly, to remember accurately, and to express themselves well. Grant that they may reflect on the best of the work they have done and the best of the teaching they have received.  Accept their best efforts in these examinations and in the great test of life on earth.  May your love be upon them, O Lord, as they place all their trust in you.  We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

All in June

A week ago I had a fire
To warm my feet, my hands and face;
Cold winds, that never make a friend,
Crept in and out of every place.
Today the fields are rich in grass,
And buttercups in thousands grow;
I’ll show the world where I have been—
With gold-dust seen on either shoe.
Till to my garden back I come,
Where bumble-bees for hours and hours
Sit on their soft, fat, velvet bums,
To wriggle out of hollow flowers.

WH Davies

Psalm 97

The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad;
let the distant shores rejoice.
Clouds and thick darkness surround him;
righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

Fire goes before him
and consumes his foes on every side.
His lightning lights up the world;

Light shines on the righteous
and joy on the upright in heart.
Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous,
and praise his holy name.

Thought for the Week

“If we could look into each other’s hearts and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.” — Marvin J. Ashton
