Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.  Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.  I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Reflection on Today’s Liturgy
Anyone who welcomes one of these little children in my name, welcomes me.’

The Second Reading today points out that jealousy and ambition cause division and rivalry, in contrast to the wisdom that comes from above. It is ‘essentially something pure … is kindly and considerate; it is full of compassion and shows itself by doing good.’

Jesus predicts his own death and resurrection to the disciples, who fail to understand what this means (Gospel). They have been arguing which of them is the greatest, but Jesus teaches them that true greatness lies in being the servant or slave of all, especially the weak and the helpless, symbolized by the child he embraces and places in their midst. By welcoming and serving the ‘little children’ we are welcoming God. Let’s ask this week for the wisdom to see Christ in all the ‘little children’ we encounter, and pray for a spirit of humility and peace.

Annual Crosscare Collection – Archbishop’s Letter

The Annual Collection for Crosscare will be taken up at all Masses in the Diocese this weekend.  It will replace the usual Share collection. Please give generously  today or online at www.crosscare.ie

Excerpt from a letter to parishioners this week, urging support Archbishop Dermot Farrell said, “In 2021, as families face greater uncertainty and insecurity intensified by the pandemic, people who are homeless and in need continue to rely on Crosscare for shelter, food, help and support. Crosscare’s work with young people at risk in our communities has continued and flourished amid the challenges of lockdown and related impact on the mental health and stability of teenagers and young adults.  Each day, people in need of support are welcomed by Crosscare in a spirit of respect, dignity and love.  I urge you to support them once again in this appeal.”

New Pilgrim Path of the Week

When St Francis composed the extraordinary Canticle of the Creatures (or Canticle of Brother Sun and Sister Moon), he was blind, yet able to see more clearly than ever with the inner eye of his mind. His unqualified love of all creatures, great and small, grew into unity in his heart. Celebrate this week of the Season of Creation by praying the words of Francis in an inspiring reading of the Canticle. See : www.newpilgrimpath.ie.

A Thought For The Week

The first to apologise is the bravest.  The first to forgive is the strongest.  The first to forget is the happiest.

A Constant Dance of Pain and Sweet Love

Ggrief will never truly end. It may become softer over time, more gentle, but some days will feel sharp, but grief will last as long as love does, forever. It’s simply the way the absence of your loved one manifests in your heart. A deep longing, accompanied by the deepest love. Some days, the heavy fog may return, and the next day, it may recede, once again. It’s all an ebb and flow, a constant dance of sorrow and joy, pain and sweet love.  – Lexi Behrndt

Leave The Old Nonsense Behind

Sometimes being anxious or stressed is the result of projecting yourself into an uncertain future or reliving past events that you cannot change. Scripture tells us that we can be alive in the moment when we surrender our worries to God. This weekend try to set aside 15 minutes to get quiet and pray for the peace of God to invade an area of your life that is causing you stress or anxiety.

Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety. Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in. Forget them, tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. This new day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays.                      Paul Bane & Matt Litton

The House With Nobody In It

If I had a lot of money

And all my debts were paid

I’d put a gang of men to work

With brush and saw and spade.

I’d buy that place and fix it up

The way it used to be

And I’d find someone

Who needs a home

And I’d give it to them free.

For a house that has done

What a house should do,

A house that has sheltered life,

That has wrapped its solid loving arms

Around a man and his wife,

A house that has echoed a baby’s laugh

And held up his stumbling feet,

Is the saddest sight, when it’s left alone,

That ever your eyes could meet.

~ Alfred Joyce Kilmer

Autumn Equinox Blessing

The light and the dark are the same in length,

They have equal time, equal strength.

But soon the darkness will prevail

and the light and warmth will begin to pal.

.    But do not be afraid, do not dismay

…  Rejoice in the abundance that this year bears

Breathe deep in the coolness and change in the air.

Have gratitude and blessing, keep toll

And may the shift of nature enlighten your soul.
