Reflection on the Scriptures for this Sunday
‘Do not be afraid; only have faith’

We are encouraged to have faith in the Lord and in the life that the Lord brings – not just here on earth, but also in heaven.

The Book of Wisdom piece (First Reading) reminds us that God creates all things to have life, and to live that life well, resisting temptations the evil one will bring.

In the Second Reading, St Paul offers guidance on responding to the many kinds of gifts that come from living life well.  We are not asked to make things harder for ourselves, but to use whatever surplus we have, to share those gifts with others.

The Psalm is a song of praise and thanks for the gift of life, and the healing promise of the Lord.  We can rejoice in the knowledge that the Lord comes to the help of all who call, regardless of our worthiness.

Through the miracles Jesus works in the Gospel, we are reminded once more of the healing, comfort and new life that can be ours, if we but trust in the gift of faith.

We can use our time in prayer to ask for our faith to continue to increase, so that we will have more than enough to offer those who are struggling with theirs.

The Sacramental Parish Team is doing preliminary planning for the 2025 Sacraments. The team works closely with the children of Scoil Eoin and North Bay from September to May in preparation for the Sacraments while liaising with the school and religion teacher. To enable this valuable work to continue, we need more volunteers urgently. It is not a big commitment – just 7 Masses during the year. Please send contact details to kbfparish5@gmail.com or to Janice in the Parish Office.

Peter’s Pence Collection

The annual Peter’s Pence collection takes place this weekend 29th/30th June. It replaces the Share Collection.

We send our very best wishes to all the children for their summer holidays – may they be happy and safe.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is held Tuesday to Friday, 11am-3pm, each week.

Dublin Diocese Pilgrimage to Lourdes 5th – 10th Sept. 24

The cost of bringing a sick pilgrim to Lourdes estimates around €1,200 of which €605 is paid by the Association. Each pilgrim is asked to contribute €595 (if affordable); No sick pilgrim is ever refused because of inability to pay. To help the Association’s contribution, each parish is asked to hold a Church gate collection. All proceeds go to reducing the cost of the pilgrimage. We will be having our Parish Collection soon, possibly in August.

New Pilgrim Path        A Grateful Day

It is not happiness that makes us grateful. It is gratefulness that makes us happy. Every moment is a gift. … Whatever life gives to you, you can respond with joy. Joy is the happiness that does not depend on what happens. It is the grateful response to the opportunity that life offers you at this moment.”

These words, from a video by Brother David Steindl-Rast, a Benedictine monk who co-founded A Network for Grateful Living, dedicated to gratefulness as a transformative influence for individuals and society. It offers practices and resources for those seeking a more awake, joyful, and meaning-filled life. Watch his video “A Grateful Day” at www.newpilgrimpath.ie

I wish I was an Angel                      Paddy O’Keeffe

I wish I was an Angel and soar to great heights

Fly around the World and see all the wonderful sights

I wish I was an Angel and move faster than the speed of light

Travel through the Universe and visit every star so bright

I’m not an Angel and I have no wings

I can only dream and imagine such wonderful things

I’m not an Angel but it doesn’t stop me dreaming

I close my eyes and through the skies I’m winging

My imagination runs free and wild

Like an earthly angel, a little innocent child.

Humans don’t mind hardship; in fact they thrive on it; what they mind is not feeling necessary. Modern society has perfected the art of making people not feel necessary. It’s time for that to end. ~Sebastian Junger

Just be a Comfort

Be there for someone without judgment. Give of yourself, your heart, your time without wanting anything in return. Practice empathy and compassion.   Listen to someone, to allow and accept. Embrace with your hands instead of pointing a finger. Put your needs and opinions aside and allow someone to just be. Sit and just be a comfort.

When I’m No Longer Here                      Donna Ashworth

When I’m no longer here, say my name to call me near.
I will calm your disarray, move the mountains from your way.
I will dry your falling tears, whisper comfort in your ears.
When I’m no longer here, say my name to call me near.

When I’m a glowing star, do not think of me as far.
I am with your inner child, hoping you’ll embrace your wild.
Seeking joy in every day, finding jewels of light in grey.
When I’m a glowing star, do not think of me as far.

When I’m no longer here, let me rid your heart of fear,
put it down upon the floor, I’ll take it from your door.
Give me then your worry too, let me carry it for you.
When I’m no longer here, let me rid your heart of fear.

Thought for the Week

Be the things you loved most about the people who are gone.
