Summer Dues Collection
The Summer Dues collection for the support of priests will be held throughout the summer months. Your support is greatly appreciated. Envelopes are available on the back table of our Church. They are not being delivered to your home. They can be returned to the Parish Office over the summer months.
Dublin Diocese Pilgrimage to Lourdes 5th – 10th Sept. 24
This year the cost of bringing a sick pilgrim to Lourdes estimates around €1,200 of which €605 is paid by the Association. Each pilgrim is asked to contribute €595 (if affordable), No sick pilgrim is ever refused because of inability to pay. To help the Association’s contribution, each parish is asked to hold a Church gate collection. All proceeds go to reducing the cost of the pilgrimage. We will be having our Parish Collection later in the year, possibly in August. Further details to follow. See our notice boards for details.
Peter’s Pence Collection
The annual Peter’s Pence collection takes place next weekend 29th/30th June. It will replace the Share Collection.
New Pilgrim Path An Ecological Examen
The 500-year old Ignatian Examen is a daily prayer of review, used across many Christian denominations. The purpose is to discern the ways in which God has been present to you, the times when the Holy Spirit was drawing you towards life. A special ‘Ecological Examen’ has been developed as a tool for reflection and action to help deepen our call to care for creation and the most vulnerable. Access it at: www.newpilgrimpath.ie.
Reflection on the Scriptures for this Sunday
‘Who can this man be?’
Today’s readings provide an opportunity to focus on our trust in God with great courage and hope. Three of the texts demonstrate the Lord’s power over the sea, and his care for us.
In the First Reading, the Lord responds to Job’s complaints that he has been punished unjustly. God speaks of his divine power over his own creation.
God’s control over nature is also echoed in the Gospel, as Jesus calms the storm. The disciples panic as the gale takes hold, awakening Jesus, who chides them for their lack of faith. They are filled with awe as Jesus stills the waves, asking: ‘Who can this be?’
The Psalmist tells of the sailors’ fear as their frail boats are buffeted by the winds and waves, but they give thanks to the Lord for his loving care as he leads them to a safe haven.
St Paul expresses his gratitude for the overwhelming love of Christ, through whose life, death and resurrection we are offered a new creation. (Second Reading)
We pray for an increasing awareness of the Lord’s constant presence in our lives. We can express our thanks for his love in the words of the psalm refrain: O give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures for ever.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is held Tuesday to Friday, 11am-3pm, each week.
The Sacramental Parish Team is already doing preliminary planning for the 2025 Sacraments. For a number of years, the team has worked closely with the children of Scoil Eoin and North Bay from September to May in preparation for the Sacraments while liaising with the school and religion teacher. To enable this valuable work to continue, we need more volunteers urgently. It is not a big commitment – just 8/9 Masses during the year. Important Sacrament Information
Parents who wish their children to receive the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation must register with the Parish – kbfparish5@gmail.com and send a copy of the baptism certificate. If baptism has not taken place, it must be arranged before 31st October 2024, for those preparing for the sacraments in 2025.The Parish Preparation with the children and their families begins in September.
Charity Tax Refund 2022
Could anyone who received a Tax Form for updating in the post, return your as soon as possible to the Parish Office, as we wish to process the 2022 Tax Claims during the first week in July. The Kilbarrack/Foxfield Community is involved in the North Central City Neighbourhoods Competition. Judging takes place this month. Help and support this initiative – sweep outside your houses; pick up litter; no dumping of garden waste; plant and weed street flower boxes. Well done to Madeliene and friends for setting this up.
The Brilliance of Human Civilisation
When the Titanic sank, it carried millionaire John Jacob Astor IV. The money in his bank account was enough to build 30 Titanic’s. However, faced with mortal danger, he chose what he deemed morally right and gave up his spot in a lifeboat to save two frightened children. Millionaire Isidor Straus, co-owner of the largest American chain of department stores, “Macy’s,” who was also on the Titanic, said, “I will never enter a lifeboat before other men.” His wife, Ida Straus, also refused to board the lifeboat, giving her spot to her newly appointed maid, Ellen Bird. She decided to spend her last moments of life with her husband.
These wealthy individuals preferred to part with their wealth, and even their lives, rather than compromise their moral principles. Their choice in favour of moral values highlighted the brilliance of human civilisation and human nature.
