New Pilgrim Path – The Liturgy of the Hours
The Liturgy of the Hours is a very rich prayer resource. The practice of sanctifying the day with psalms, hymns, readings and prayers during seven periods, at regular intervals, is of great antiquity. Never monotonous, always new, it provides the means for the whole world, united, to pray together and sanctify every day of every year. Christians of all traditions celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours in various forms and under various names. Two excellent sites at: www.newpilgrimpath.ie.
Safeguarding/Vetting
A Message from the Garda Vetting Office –
Post-Covid, many parishes are re-introducing ministries such as Altar Servers, Family Masses and other children’s liturgies. This is to be welcomed and encouraged.
Parishes are reminded that proper safeguarding measures need to be in place prior to ministries/activities involving children and young people recommencing. Please note the following:
- No activity involving children/young people should be embarked upon without the involvement of the Parish Safeguarding Representative prior to the start of such activity whose responsibility it is to ensure that all safeguarding measure are in place.
- All persons working directly with children/young people in the parish (where parents/guardians are not present), must complete Garda Vetting and relevant diocesan safeguarding training prior to taking up their role. This is a legal requirement under the National Vetting Bureau Act 2012/2016 and a requirement under the NBSCCCI.
Reflection on the Scriptures for this Sunday
‘Take nothing for the journey except a staff’
Our readings this week invite us to reflect on the wonder of being chosen to be part of God’s plan.
In the First Reading, we hear how Amos, a shepherd, responds to God’s call to bear witness. Despite not being welcomed, he stands his ground, knowing that he has been given his mission by the Lord.
The Psalmist, giving thanks for the blessings his people have received, rejoices in the peace, justice, mercy, faithfulness and prosperity that God gives to those who trust in him.
In the Second Reading, St Paul explains to the Ephesians how we have always been a part of God’s plan. Because of the grace and blessings showered upon us, we have been freed from our sins and become adopted children of God.
Mark’s Gospel relates how Jesus sends out his disciples to teach his message of love and forgiveness. Carrying nothing but a staff, they are to trust that they will find welcome and hospitality in many places, and stay undeterred by the rejection they will find elsewhere.
This week we pray for the wisdom and insight to recognise the call of the Lord in our own lives. However ill-equipped we might feel, we ask for the courage and strength to step out, safe in the knowledge that we are never alone, and that God will provide for us.

You Are Worrying Too Much
God is saying to you today: My child, you are worrying too much. Remember who I am. There is nothing too hard for me. You may not see it, but I have everything planned out for you. Amen.
Love Your Life
However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not so bad as you think. It looks poorest when you are richest. Love your life, difficult as it is…
You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.” ~ Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)
Don’t Hold on Too Tight
“If you catch a butterfly and hold it too tightly, its delicate wings will be crushed. But if you let it rest on your palm, it may choose to stay for a while.
And so, in this life,
I have learned to love people like butterflies, enjoying their presence while they are here, while not fearing when it is their time to leave, as I know that my love will remain for them once they are gone. And should they wish to one day, then they may return. And if they should choose not to, then it is okay, as for every beautiful garden, many butterflies will come.”
Sadness is Simply Visiting You
Anything that is not love is only a visitor to your body. You are not anxious, stress is simply flowing through you.
You are not permanently depressed,
sadness is simply visiting you.
You are not lost, confusion is simply wandering within you.
And you are not broken, pain is simply passing through you.
Words by Tahlia Hunter
Inspired by the poem by Rumi “This being human is a guesthouse”
Don’t Be Afraid of Your Grief
This is what grief is. A hole ripped through the very fabric of your being. The hole eventually heals along the jagged edges that remain. It may even shrink in size.
But that hole will always be there. A piece of you always missing. For where there is deep grief, there was great love.
Don’t be ashamed of your grief. Don’t judge it.
Don’t suppress it. Don’t rush it. Rather, acknowledge it. Lean into it. Listen to it. Feel it. Sit with the pain. And remember the love.
This is where the healing will begin.
Thought for the Week
Don’t offer a lecture to a person who needs a hug.
